hey guys
more box trailer questions
just want to know if people had problems with rust in their camper trailers,
especially the the ones that are just painted steel.
because im still trying to work out if it worth spending the money and work involed to get my box trailer that im converting into a camper, hot gal dipped,(im now aware that flat panels will buckle under the heat) though i suppose if its sealed properly and looked after
well rust may not be a problem in a just painted trailer.
it will very very rarely see
the beach or salt water, lucky to be once a year, it will spend most time in national parks and caravan parks.oh! and the backyard..
thanks guys
all help appreciated
Cheers

Having "lost" a few trailers to rust over the years if you are going to park it out in the weather then get it hot dipped.
The alternative if you can't keep it in a shed or similar is to build a "trailer shed" below the fence height and big enough to wheel the trailer into, preferably a concrete floor or alternatively gravel with no low spots to accumulate water. Otherwise the trailer and camper top (I presume it will have a vinyl cover/tonneau) will deteriorate if left outside exposed to sun and rain etc.

hi there brentos.
Go to your nearest trailer sales yard, you will see the black iron ones with the rust colour stains on them already,my gal,. trailer is a light 6/4 yes it is slightly buckled "you have to look to notice it" it is 10 years old and i live near the ocean at
Wollongong and not a spot of rust and it lives in the open hope this helps with your question. cheers bill.

Hi Brentos,
Ive got a 7 x 5 box trailer that gets used reasonably regularly. Its painted in Zinc it undercoat when I 1st got it.
Its get rust marks on it as it lives in the open. When I notice them (or they are bad enough to push me into action) I touch it up with zinc it.
I've had it 18 years now and have gone thru a handful of paint cans.
Have you concidered powdercoating as an option?
Cheers Wilko
