I went to a 4x4 competion in Perth the other day I must say that I was very disipointed in the lack of safety procedures shown to the general public , most of the snatches were done without a dampener being attached to the strap , there was in most casses people standing to close to the stap when it was under strain , I feel that if clubs are going to put on these displays/comp that all should be trained in correct procedures , the average man on the street is relying on these days out to show them how it is done and safetly ,I hope that any club member reading this will look at there safety procedures before allowing the public to be shown dangerous recovery procedures at there competions Born to drive a 4x4 , not a keyboard

Peter

I take it you are talking about the bullsbrook event.
Just arrived back from long weekend in Bindoon.

Would be good if some of these people would learn about
4x4 + caravan + traffic etiquette!
Not nice having some idiot pull out in front of you when doing ~100
especially on wet roads. Get a frigin brain.

Was wanting to come down and check it out but was having too much fun
with other things.

Was it worth it do you think! Anything special that stood out?

cheers

I am not having a go at the organisers it is great to see an event in WA and I am sure that it takes a lot of work to set it up ,it was good to see so many displays and sponsers there , I think the cost $10 was well worth it , I had no trouble seeing all the action even though I am vertically challanged, I hope there will be a lot more events closer to home in the future , but the saftey side needs to be looked at as new people to 4Wd must be shown the correct way to do a recovery and hopfully it will save a life.Born to drive a 4x4 , not a keyboard

Peter, I was at the same event on saturday when 1 of the straps broke when the recovery vehicle just accelerated away with no thought of the consequence. The first thing my 7 y.o. daughter asked was why the man had not put a wet bag over the snatch strap.
I was suprised at how close officials and the recovering navigators were in some cases to the strap. We, however did enjoy the day even though sometimes the testosterone and the big motors can do funny things to some peoples brains.

I noticed the things Peter pointed out too although not every snatch strap was missing a dampener, some of these just seem to have been forgotten or lost during the heat of the competition. They should have stopped and deducted points for those that forgot the dampener.I also agree that in some cases spectators were a little too close to the recoveries. I would like to see the centre of the track built up with soil so you could see all the action all over the course without having to get to close. All in all it was a good effort by the committee with so many 1st time competitors, mashals and spectators. The booze free rule was an added bonus to families who are sick of attending events full of drunk yobbos.
