I have a Prado 2003 model and am considering a secondhand TVAN, I was wondering if there will be any problems accessing the back door of the Prado whilst hooked up, ie opening the door passed the spare tyre, has anyone had similar concerns?? Do we need a drawbar extension or relocate the TVAN Spare??

Tvans are made with either a standard length drawbar or an extended drawbar (400mm longer). With the standard draw bar the rear door of the Prado will hit on the Tvan spare. With an extended drawbar the Prado rear door will clear the Tvan spare and open fully.

A friend with a Prado went for the long drawbar on his TVan so he could open the rear door.

Sounds like your answer is to look for a second hand one with long drawbar. We own one and they are a dream to tow, though they do fetch a hefty price second hand. How much will you save if you buy used? Also remember, if buying new you can customise it to suit you. If you want examples of my last point just ask.

The long draw bar is for cars with a single rear
barn door. We have picked up our new Tvan just last November and absolutely love it. Even though we own a Patrol, we went for the long draw bar. This will give you a wider audience if you ever decide to sell it.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Cheers

The longer drawbar also offers safer towing at higher speeds (stability) and IMO easier reversing
