just after some info, i have finally convinced my wife to come proper camping with me and our young boys and i am trying to get some info on the area and do an approx itinerary , so can anyone tell me approximately how long it takes to get to P/f from Mansfield, also approx time to craigs hut from p/f, and if anyone has any other good place i should visit while im up there that would be helpful! i dont want to do any real serious driving while she is in the car so is there any tracks to steer clear of.
thanx for the help

Mansfield to Pineapple flat is about 1.5 hours via circuit road.
About 3 hours via Westons track.

Pineapple Flat to Craigs hut is about an hour.

Head down to Bindaree Falls and Bindaree Hut - all good track to there.

Can loop down to the Howqua River - towards Fry's Hut etc if you have more time and don't mind doing a bit of 4wding.

In addition to Phils suggestions.............
Purcells Hut off the Circuit rd. Lake Cobbler & Dandongadale falls. Walk out to Mt Speculation. Mt Number 3. Mt Stirling Summit track. All good destinations.
Avoid Buckland Spur & Monument Track in the wet.
Cheers Craig............

I was down at Pineapple flat last weekend and there were quite a few campers in. There was also a crew of younger guys that had the music going loud. If I were you I would be going to Frys or Bindaree to camp - both have access to the river (Fry's is better). Pineapple Flat seems to attract a higher 'bogan' crowd. The river at Pineapple was up a bit - actually stalled the bike going across and it was over knee height for the push out. Westons track was also very loose - looks like it had been graded recently. We came in off No. 3 road and it is very steep and definite low range (had a 100 series with us that spent plenty of time in low 1.

Hope none of your party get car sick. The dirt roads are as curvy and winding as can be and seem to go on forever. The grades are gentle but at the expense of the extra bends. Oh and the 'loo at Pineapple stank enough to make your eyes water last week but that's camping! The ford over the King River at the flat was only knee deep and out of the 5 or 6 others upstream was the deepest. Warrie.
