Hi, what moon phases (or tides) fish the best at King Ash Bay? I am hoping to be there in May.
Thanks

Hi Phil. We've spent some time at King Ash Bay each winter for the past 4 years and are members of the Fishing Club. There are lots of theories among the regulars on what produces good fishing up there.
I focus more on tides, both hight and flow, than moon, though of course they are related. Tides up there are VERY strange. Tide charts are available from the office. They are a good guide to how much water and flow there will be, but cannot be relied upon to accurately forecast water depth. Some days, there is just one tide all day, on others, there can be up to five. Some days, there is a difference between high and low of 2.5 metres. Other days, just 100mm.
I look for a good flow in the tide and enough water to get to and from the desired
fishing spot (easy to get caught on mud flats and up some of the creeks). One of the principals though is ' if it is a good day and you feel like fishing - then go fishing'. You just have to change your method, location and target species to best fit with the conditions on the day.
We'll be up there again this year, arriving in time for the
Easter Classic (fishing comp) and staying for a few months. Our rusty red Kedron should be easy to spot on the river bank.
If you have not seen it,
This Blog tells the story of our times at King Ash Bay.
Have a good trip. If you need any other info on the place, let me know.

Yes Josh, we remember you and Danny - you had come down from the Towns. We remember the whole barra you cooked on the coals in foil too.
We ended up getting out around the islands (inside them at least) in our little boat later in the season. A different world out there.
Keep an eye out for us and drop in if you get down this year.
