Have you looked at this one??

Safe N Sound Compact Deluxe

We used this one when I had the Triton dual cab, have since upgraded since both kids are in forward facing seats.

Cheers Kev

g'day ,
we also used the safe and sound brand, I think we bought it from Big W originally. It faced backwards to start with the child laying down and as the child grows it turns around to face the front with the child sitting up or reclining. We used it in a Ford Falcon and then a Patrol GQ but it came with all the straps and connections so you could use it in any vehicle. We thought it was a pretty good seat ,our two kids always seemed comfortable in it.Hope this helps.Cheers

Zach
If your in QLD get in contact with the QLD Ambulance and you can rent a capsule for $60 for 6 months. They fit it for you. Other states may provide the service as well but unsure. The capsule comes in two parts, the base unit stays in the vehicle, strapped in. The little one goes into the main part, strapped in snug and then it locks into the base unit.

Hi zach.sam

We used a Go Safe brand in our Mazda Bravo, it was the smallest (slimmest and shortest) that we could find. We bought this at the usual baby shop.

good luck

Just went through this what fits exercise for the new grand daughter.

Ended up with the Safe n Sound compaq, because

On the RACV site we looked at the CREP report (Child restraint evaluation program ?) and this seat came out miles ahead on performance in both forward and rear facing tests. Others were ok one way but not the other. This one also compared well with the dedicated forward facing seats.

Size is a problem with all rear facing seats that we could find that complied with the standards (not much point if they don't comply) All the good seats seem to need the same amount of room when facing backwards. none of them will leave you with enough clearance if your front seat passengers are over 6' tall.

The other advantage of the better seats is the side restraint wings for head protection. This has apparently been the big improvement area as most of the child injuries appear to be from side impacts a particular thing to remember in 4x'x due to rollover type accidents.

My conclusion is that none of these seats has been designed to fit properly in a normal sized vehicle while facing backwards, but from what I have found out from the road safety people, a not quite right rearward facing saet is still the best for injury prevention until the child is too big for it.

Probably more than you asked for but I dealt with a few road safety people to sort this out. Got a fantastic response from the child restraint person at VicRoads who could clarify anything I have confused you with here.

regards

A
