About bloody time.
I liked this bit, even Mainy may be able to get a refund for his twin Hiclowns in the future.

"Ms O'Driscoll said a number of companies who claimed their fuel saving devices provided better fuel economy and lower emissions were being investigated."

I hope they get that Burglar Bill as well LOL

Hehe, Where's Bill from "Futch" these days - he used to be the life of the forum!

Mainey drives a 1985 "Highace" 2.4L diesel automatic - maybe the Hiclowns make a difference to that motor/trans combination??? But my guess he'd have a solar powered electric motor in there somewhere :-))

Guys
as you say I could have got a refund at any time if I wanted to, but I'm happy with them there, I can't prove they work, I believe they probably do, so it's not a concern to me to remove them.

They claim they work so probably both statements are lies as has apparently been proved.

With 100% profit margin many fuel gadget companies offer to their agents, there is no shortage of sellers willing to spruke the allegged benefits.

Any mechanic who sells these should be named and shamed

I read regarding another fuel saver that most people get a tune at the same time and that is where the perceived fuel improvement comes from.

Spot on!

If you troll back through the archives a few years ago, I got embroiled in the great "FUTCH" (not it's real name.....change the "U" to an "I"....changed to avoid computer search hitting on this thread) debate. Because the great man himself (Bill S of Wollongong) was prepared to supply a money back guarantee with his little colourful coke can, I decided to shell out my hard-earned to test it. I have always maintained meticulous fuel usage records, so I knew I'd be in a good position to tell if I was enjoying the claimed 10% fuel economy improvement.

I had it on for 2 months and sent it back....got my full refund, but was down as far as the cost of the postage was concerned.

After I returned it, there were some more harsh words spoken on this forum because Bill S claimed that the reason I didn't see any improvement in economy was that I didn't get my fuel injector pump timing retarded ( as suggested by Bill S).

If I'd have wanted to retard my fuel pump, I could have done that (and seen the change in fuel economy), without bothering to fit the FELCH!!!

I believe we all came to the conclusion that the only retard in this matter was Bill S.

Another one of Burglar Bills little tricks was his "accredited fuel consumption test" where he went off for little drives ON HIS OWN ,and the fuel usage was measured when he returned LOL.

To confuse things he used to add 3 places after the decimal point

Oh Boy!

Do I remember that episode. Just as Roachie recounts, Bill demanded that Roachie have his pump wound back. That would have offered a fuel saving without the Futch, Fetch whatever. However who knows at what detriment to Roachie's engine.
Yeah! I had quite a few run ins with the wonderful Mr. Bill S over his "Futch".
The guy made a big thing on the forum by offering to fit a unit "free of charge" to my own vehicle, I asked if that included free supply of the unit itself and the question apparently disappeared into the ether.

There were innumerable statements about university tests about to be released that testified to the veracity of the product, dyno tests to be carried out "shortly" etc.... etc.

Still waiting in Feb. 2010.

Bill also offered me a free unit but I said I would pay for one if he could show me tests done to the Aust Standards for fuel consumption.
He never replied.
I suspected he was after my address to send lawyers after me for calling him names.

Anyone got a scan of one of their invoices?

Good price offered, I could pay for my next trip off the refunds!

Thanks ,Ill give them a miss.

I also get annoyed about some of the big 4wd magazines advertising various fuel savers.
I know its their right ,but on the other hand, they are always claiming they are looking out for motorists with their "unbiased comparisons" and fact finding missions.

I sent some emails off to a major 4wd magazine's editor pointing this out but never got a reply
