I know this probably been over done in many other threads however I would like your advice
I usually run around 40psi on the Highway to help tyre wear and stability

On gravel or rougher roads I will go down to around 28 to 30 psi

On the beach I let them down to 15 to 18psi.

Are these pressures around the mark

Thanks for your advice

If you want an intelligent answer you probably need to include vehicle type and load, tyre brand and size etc.

Rougher roads you can go down to 22 psi...

Everything else is good

I use 28 on dirt, 22 on slower rough/rocky roads( max speed 60klms/hr) and 18 on beach. never had a flat touch wood except the time i was to lazy to reduce pressures........mmm.

Wayne,

The tyre pressures sound OK. One thing to remember is the lower the tyre pressure the slower the vehicle speed.

I let my front tyres down 4psi lower than the back, just because of the Troopie can be heavy in the back.

I would assume that when adjusting tyre pressure they are cold.

The other thing that I have come across is the accuracy of tyre pressure gauges.
I am not saying that the two tyre pressure gauges that I have are correct but the difference between mine and some others that I have seen is quite a lot.

I have run those tyres on 80 and 100 series with 40 - 42 psi on the highway. Keeps the wear even across the tread while still providing a firm ride with some degree of suppleness. Any lower the sideblocks wear too quickly.

I dont lower them for the dirt/gravel considering the weight in the back and the camper trailer but will lower the speed for the conditions. No punctures in 3 sets that endure 100,000km of mostly highway but certainly many thousands of km rough gravel roads and tracks.

Thanks guys.

I thought 22 may be too low for rough roads however I can see that you need to keep the tyre as supple as possible . I can believe max speed would not be very high at this pressure. I imagine I would have to pump then back up as soon as the going got better.

28 COLD seems a good compromise for a reasonable speed, grip and stability on loose surface.

I know you have to keep the pressure high on the Highway simply to reduce edge wear on the tyres.

Thanks again for all your advice.
