Happy
Easter to all of you.
could anyone please clarify for me if it is possible to drive from the Zig Zag railway entrance, along the glowworm tunnel all the way to
Newnes? Looking at google map; just before the end of the road there is a
intersection which takes you on to the Old Coach Rd. However there is a small gap just before the Wolgan Rd.
the plan is to get into the bush, do some 4wd and explore the
wolgan valley a bit as we have not been there yet.
all in one long day.
any advise is most appreciated as always.

Unfortunately no.
You can cut across from the "Bungleboori"
camping area. (overrun with rubbish and motorbikes) along Blackfelllows hand trail. This brings you out on the road from
Lithgow to
Newnes.
You will need a map as there are a few twists and turns and forks that can easily be mistaken for the main track.
When in
Newnes I highly recommend crossing the river North of the pub and doing the walk around the old shale works. Highly interesting.
It will also be pretty busy on this long weekend.
Enjoy yourself,
Brian

The main road to the
glow worm tunnel ends at a
carpark with a
locked gate. The other end of the coach road out at
Newnes specifies walking track only. I don't think they want you to drive on that track.

By the way, I agree with Brian. Its a good walk through the
ruins at
Newnes, a very pretty place.

Having walked it many (30+) years ago before it was NP we did consider driving it but would have required major earthwork and much winching.
These days I'd reckon it wouldn't be much wider than a walking track and the trees growing on the old railway bed would be huge, back then they were up to 6" diameter.

No!
You cannot drive from Clarence to
Newnes via the
Glow Worm Tunnel.
I and half a dozen mates did it on motor cycles with a lot of sweat and swearing.
I was twenty years of age at the time, so that makes it forty three years ago.
Not a hope in hell today. The real big
embankment prior the tunnel was washed out when we did it then.
