Am in the processof fitting a 60 series five speed gear box in a HJ47 deisel.Does the diff need to be changed when fitting a five speed 60 series gearbox into a diesel HJ47.And I was wondering if I can get away with out changeing the axle houseing.Does the 60 series diff fit into the hj47 diff houseing.

I dont see why it would NEED to be changed, unless you want different ratios?
Will the 47 transfer fit and does it remain in the same place? This determines if you will need to cut the tailshaft.

If you do your research you will find that Mr Toyota didn't make parts for each individual vehicle/model. The running gear is all the same and therefore interchangeable. How do I know? In 1993 I converted a 1972 Twin Cab Dyna into a 4x4 using Landcruiser components and they all bolted straight in/on.
What's the diff ratio of the HJ47, is it 3.7 or 4.1?

If you are changing the transfer case then you will need the 60 series rear end or at least the brakes from it as the 47 has a transfer case/ tailshaft mounted handbrake which will not fit the rear of the 60 series transfercase.
