I know I already asked this questionImage Could Not Be Found, but I'll ask it again, since I'm also including the tyre placard photo. I want to put the wider tyres on my GX Prado, but am unsure if it'd be legal or not. The GXL, VX and Grande all run the wider tyres except for the GX with its skinnier tyres. I know a few people who've done it, but haven't checked out the legalities of it. Anyway, here's the photo of the tyre placard.Image Could Not Be Found

You might need to use the wider rims as
well.

The answer is on your placard.
You currently have 225/70R17 on 17x6J rims.
You can put on 265/65R17 but will need 17x7.5JJ rims.
As you are in NSW if you
check changes to wheels.
VSI 09 (Click here)
Under Minor changes to wheels.
"The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle."

G'day. The same label is used for all variants of the prado, weather its a GXL, VX or GRANDE. Yours being a VX technically should only have the smaller version, as larger width tyres will protrude outside the guards. ( The reason Grande etc has flares ) making it illegal in most states. You could get around it by fitting aftermarket flares relitively cheap.
