Thanks to everyone who offered advice on whether we would make it through some of the roads in NW SA on my thread a few days ago. We made it through safely and with the 24' Van intact.

Our route was from Roxby Downs we went across the Borefield Road and hit the Oodnadatta track at Bowpeechy where we turned left towards William Creek. This road was pretty good but we had to be alert to slow right down on the rutted and rougher sections.

The Oodnadatts track through to William creek was the best part of the whole 700km of dirt we travelled on, but again we had to slow down for some ruts and for creek crossings and floodways.

From William Creek to Oodnadatta was the roughest part by far, it took us about 6.5 hours to travel the 240km from Strandways Ruins which was our camp spot the night before. We averaged about 40km p/h and spend some periods of upto half an hour doing only 20kph.

The road from Oodnadatta to Coober Pedy was good today although we didn't travel all of it as we took the route through the painted desert which was very good in placed but pretty rough in other places especiall a couple of creek crossings, all very passable though if you take your time.

We had a great time and the kids will always remember the real "outback" adventure.

There was very little other traffic on the oodnadatta track, especially yesterday when all we saw was 3 cars all day.

cheers

Hi Dave, can you see water in Lake Eyre South? Nice trip towing the van, I didn't read your original post is it an offroad van? See you in the outback!

hi timothy, yes you can see plenty of water in lake ayre south, it was awesome. the van is a galaxy odyssy, it isnt an off road van but does have built up suspension and a good solid chassis. i was probbly over cauyious on the rough sections and could have possibly travelled a little quicker but we still have another 12 months in this van and didnt want to risk damaging it. cheers
