Gidday

You might recall I put a post on here asking about a fella who I couldn’t put a name to, or at least remember his name.

Within a very short time, the forum replied and I’ve since got a copy of ‘Buckley’s Chance’ written by Bob Stevens.

Ben is not the only character in the High Country, but I was interested in finally reading his story. This all started back in late 80’s when I was the Shell distributor in Gippsland, including the High Country.

I’d heard of Ben’s antics after many a night in the bush pubs and finally tracked his story down.

Have a read of it.

Regards

Kim

Was the subject of a documentary on the ABC about 6 weeks ago. It didn't seem to cover the high country mainly the area around Port Phillip.

So which one is the subject of the expression "Buckley's chance"?
I thought William Buckley was worthy of it after seeing the doco but is it another Buckley?

Ben Buckley, a legend in his own lifetime. As a agricultural and bush pilot flew under a bridge and got into a little trouble with the authorities for his routine. Bit of a colourful lad you may say.

Ben is a Councillor in the East Gippsland Shire and before that Omeo Shire for a stint, including time as President. Flying an ultralight to New Zealand made a bit of history too.

Good family name in the area

Gidday John

I think you'll find that Ben got into a lot of trouble well before the old Snowy bridge incidence around Orbost. LOL.

The old blokes in Nowa Nowa still talk about it.

The title of the book is Buckley’s Chance. ISBN 0 957737203. You can order it from your local library.

Bob Stevens phone number is (03) 51552427 (he’s out of Lakes Entrance).

Hope this helps.
