Depends on the towbar, there are a number of different "sizes" usually governed by price, however, the last say goes to Toyota.
I'm not sure what your vehicle is rated at (maximum) regardless of how good your towbar is, or how good your vehice tows, Toyota's towing limits must be adhered to.

This what Toyota has rated the capacity at. Vehicle weight, engine, brakes, etc all comes into what the vehicle is capable of. To be honest with a 1kz I wouldn't want to put any more weight behind it anyway. The engine is only rated to 315nm (get more with a chip) 1800 behind is a fair amount of weight.I know the likes of the navara's and some of the later utes are rated considerably more but have bigger motors, brakes and possibly stronger transmissions as well ?? regards Steve

Didn't do your reasearch did you. you allowerd your heart to rule your head. I did my research and bought a 2002 TD Navara, rated at 3 tonne towing capacity. I got no problems.

Your only problem is that if your D22 is loaded to GVM, then you are only permitted 80kgs for the towball download.

Not quite right, Phil. At GVM I am allowed 100 kgs on the towball. I can put 250 Kgs on the tow ball if I am at 280 kgs below GVM in the vehicle. ie still carry 2640 Kgs in the D22. You are quoting specs from a different vehicle !!!

I haven't got a spec sheet for a 2002 D22 Navara, so I used a spec sheet for the current D22. Point is that Nissan specify a rather high towing capacity, but put riders on it.

No different to any other manufacturer. They all derate towball load according to vehicle load !!

In any case the 2002 Hilux is only rated for 2730 Kg GVM. I can carry this load and have 200 Kgs on the tow ball!!

Letrs face it, Nissan rules !!!!

On your model Hilux, the chassis can bend if you have too much towball weight.
