OziExplorer gurus.....

Gday,

Que. 1

Im having trouble with Ozi CE (yes again).
Last weekend I went for a drive and marked a track (route?) on my GPS. Now im trying to make the track show up again and it wont show. I can find the file by going into....File...Route...Load route file.
But when I click ok nothing shows up on the map????? Any ideas

Que
Could someone please explain how to take a route/track off Ozi CE and put it on google earth.

Cheers

Hi Hairy

There is a difference between a route & a track. In Ozi, a route is just a straight line linking up all the waypoints in a route. A track is a recording (log) of the actual track you travelled.

In Google Earth, you can import an Ozi track or waypoint file but not an Ozi route.

You say that last weekend you marked a track. I am not sure if you mean you set your PDA (or similar) to log your track. If you did, then you can download or copy your track from your PDA to your desktop. It will have a file extension of plt.

If you load your track file &/or waypoint file into the desktop version of Ozi, then just click on the SAVE icon in the menu bar. Once you do this, there is an option on the drop down menu to 'Export to Google Earth'. Select this option.

Another window will pop up listing all the waypoint files & track files that you have currently loaded into Ozi. You need to tick the ones you want to convert. Now click the Save button. You will be asked for a file name with a kml extension. This is one of the file formats that GE will open.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi Hairy

Is it a Track or Route? these are a totally different thing.
I assume that since you say you can find the route file and are
trying to load it then it is not a track. A route will not show in Oziexplorer
unless you have loaded the associated Waypoint file at the same time.

I do not know about veiwing a route from Ce but I assume you would have to save it as a KML file first this file can then be opened from within Google Earth.

If you have Oziexplorer you can open your track/route/waypoints then select File-Save to File-Export to Google Earth, when the Google Earth dialoge box opens, select what you want to open from the list and click on the 'Veiw Data in Google Earth (thrird button from left).

Sorry not very good explanation but see how it goes..

You need to open the track toolbar and then open the track file you saved as track 1 (or 2-5), then you should be able to see it. Make sure you have the track settings right in configuration, bright blue works for me. Just had to do this in Broken Hill to follow a track Blaze sent me, and it took me straight thru a billabong thats just formed there....... Lucky I had good lights and good brakes

Bonz, Blaze did that to me last year too. A nice short cut from Pooncarie to Renmark. I tried to take short cuts to his track file and went right up to station internal fences. Then there were wet roads I shouldn't go on. I had to turn around, go back to Mildura, just so I could see out of the windows I spent many $$$ in the car wash with the car and Karavan. Blaze knows the short cuts alright - in the dry.

I have been along that shortcut from the Renmark end and it was great, and mores the point Des Lexic was the one who put me onto it, even found my way without directions the following year. Its definitely there.

Yes, I realise it was there, it was just a recently graded (I think mining) road that I shouldn't have been on in the wet. Just as well the Big Horns gripped enough to allow me turn around when I probably shouldn't have been there in the conditions.

Bonz, That deslexic bloke must be a legend. I heard that he knows his way around but he also likes to take others on his little "Mystery Trips" too so that they can't find out his secrets. That Blaze bloke would lead anyone up the garden path.

Dasher, between you and Bonz, I am sure you can make him a legend. I know he led some "mystery trips" around the Pyrenees and not even he knew where he was going, letting alone even telling you or Mrs Lexic ;-)

Welll guys that Mr lexic just came in and told me to look on todays posts for this Post, I looked and searched under Blaze, Under Bonz and Hairy and couldnt see anything, so I put up a post asking what happened to it.

Well the same as his great Navi skills he gave me the wrong date, so i only searched the 30th and the 31st.

I guess with a name like he has we should be far more understanding of his short comings.
I must add I am quite happy that nature decided to wake you up with a small puddle in your path Mr. Bonz, all good for the excitement of an offroad adventure...
