Hi all
Just watched a segment on Today Tonight about a UFO sighting that happened in
Melbourne some 40 or so years ago. Apparently this incident was witnessed by a large number of students and staff at a school (can't remember the suburb) near
Melbourne. According to the article all concerned were sworn to silence.
Now I have no idea how credible the witnesses were or how genuine the presented facts are but it got me wondering if any members or visitors to this
forum have ever had an experience with lights or sightings of objects that defied rational explanation. I guess things that did not seem to fit the usual criteria of weather balloons, marsh gas, low flying aircraft(of the conventional type) or large doses of alcohol or recreational substances consumed by the observers.
OK I'll be the mug and start it off. Many, many years ago a few mates and I were batting the breeze in my parents front yard which overlooked part of what is referred to locally as the coastal plane here in WA. Now before you jump to the expected conclusions...........yes we had had a drink and no we weren't anywhere near smashed. We were smoking and it was in all cases perfectly legal if somewhat unhealthy tobacco.
One of our number drew our attention to a light that appeared in the sky about (from memory) 15-20 degrees above the horizon and in a southerly direction from where we were. In size, which was hard to estimate, it appeared to be about the size of your little finger nail if held at arms length. The colour varied from a yellowish green to quite
bright, almost white. As we watched it travelled further south and after watching it for some minutes it disappeared. No it didn't head off in any direction at great speed or go behind a tree or cloud, it went out like someone turning off a light. Now none of us have seen anything like that since but the memory has stayed for all this time.
Cheers

When i was 10, this took place in 1985, as i was in cubs then, three ufo, hovered over a field behind the scout hall which was only a stones throw away from where i lived in mackay. they where there for like what seemed like half hour, i didn't have a time piece. I could veiw all three of the ufo's from my bedroom window.
it still freaks me out thinking about it. the colours seemed like red blue and white, in a triangle shape.
has anyone else seen them?

Hi Pop
The suburb was Westall in the South East of
Melbourne, when I (Julie) was
living in Springvale South next to Westall about 20 years ago there was also
another "sighting" there were a group of us in my backyard no drinking or
smoking and we all witnessed strange
orange lights, 5 of them changing
positions this went on for about 5 minutes then they all vanished, we
reported what we had seen and it was in the news the next day with
lots of people reporting the same sighting in neighboring suburbs. Makes
you wonder about the Min Min lights near
Boulia and Spaceships near
Wycliffe Well.
Cheers
Julie

Hi Julie
Was this the sighting reported on the Today Tonight program?
Yeah, I'm not sure what the explanation for the Min Min lights is but I would think it would send a shiver down the spine if sighted
miles from nowhere on a dark night.
Cheers

Certainly could have been, this was back in the 60's, not a lot of satellites around then but I guess you only need one.

Year...1965, location... S34 08 10.0 E139 51 51.9 exact, area, Sunlands Irrigation Scheme near Waikerie, SA, Month...August, time approx 8:30pm , I was with my Dad and Brother In Law in the Vanguard Spacemaster, 3 of us in the front
seat, Dad was driving, I was in the middle, heading West to spotlight Rabbits, Brother in Law says , Oh look there's a plane , I looked low toward the horizon as he said it I seen a dim light, within less than 4 seconds we were leaning forward in the
seat looking up at a
bright light , about the size of the full moon shining down at us, it then seemed to break up into 3 smaller lights, (my only explanation of that was the large light was turned off) and it shot off to the North and vanished within 2 seconds, Dad had turned of the engine, there was no sound at all, no piston engine, no jet, nothing, just the hairs on the back of
the neck tingling, Over the years I still think of that night, at one stage I thought of Gliders because Waikerie is a top glider town, but I throw that out because Gliders don't have large lights and don't fly at night, to this day It still has me wondering, and since then I have learnt a lot about the universe and evolution, I look at the millions of stars and understand they are like our star (Sun) some 100's time bigger, some much smaller and believe, somewhere out there there has to be many other Stars with Planets that will support life, simply that our planet Earth is not the only pea in the pod.

That's it Doug, there is so much out there that we would be arrogant to think we are the only forms of life that exist. I try to explain to my own kids about how the earth is big but quite small in it's own solar system which itself is a speck in the milky way, which itself is one of how many??? The mind boggles.

Well - there's always the other end of the spectrum.
Cow-orker at work - not the brightest bulb - anyways - she told us the story of herself one night coming
home late only to find her partner of then - in his undies - in the backyard, with a camcorder in his hand pointing up at the sky. In his own words - he was filming UFOs .... all those lights in the sky.
It never registered with any of them the fact that incidentally, they were living just next to Amberley Airbase!

A good movie to watch that gets you thinking is - The
forth kind.
Its about an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up. I felt so sorry at the end for the lady giving the documented accounts.

I had a look at the trailer for this last night on you tube - I'll be looking to hire that one!
I wonder if the 'based on true story' is like the blair witch project that made it look like it was based on real events?

Does anyone remember that family that was abducted by a UFO while driving across the Nullabor?
Apparently all the electrics in their car died out and the car was lifted so far off the ground that when it came back down, all the tyres burst.
What ever became of that one??????

I was on a station up near Leinster about 15 years ago and saw a
bright light moving in an erratic manner just above ground level. I'd had a few beers but was not drunk and my mate who does not drink at all saw it too. It wasn't a fleeting glimpse either, this went on for quite a while.
I'm fairly level headed so I didn't think it was spacemen or a secret plot by the government, but I most certainly did witness this phenomenon and a very cool, calm and collected person standing beside me saw it too which rules out individual neurological causes. It was a fascinating experience and more than a little bit eerie at the same time.
Here's a link to the ABC's News in Science show with a logical explanation and what's more, according to the neuroscientist the lights can be duplicated in controlled conditions.
Min Min Lights
In summary Min Min Lights are 100% real and you don't need a
mullet, tattoos, track suit pants and 195kg wife to see them.

When i was 8 yrs old 1969 ,my family and i were driving across the
Hay Plains at night, heading east,we saw a HUGE spherical object ,maybe 200 metres dia , maybe bigger, not in the sky but hovering just above the ground, about 2-300mtrs off the road,it slowly rose into the air to a height where it was about the size of a pea held at arms length then it started to go back and
forth around the sky for about an hour,it was glowing yellow and NOT the moon or anything else easily explained ,i hate the way some know-it-alls decide that they know better and offer ridicule and some glib explanation.only a couple of years ago i saw a report of a similar object seen 300kms away from where we saw this at about the same time! considering the abundance and diversity of lifeon earth and the virtually infinite size of the universe, statistically life must exist out there.
