Hi All
I have a
suspension arm bush needing replacement on an 80 series, I have decided over many years that standard and original usualy win in the end.
But the only std rubber bushes I can find are genuine and a complete set front + back will be
well over $1000 for parts alone!!!!
So is there anything wrong with the poly types?
Or do the rubber / original type give better shock absorbtion and there fore better ride / feel as
well as less long term vehical issues from corrigated roads?
Is there a better poly type / brand?
Regards
GN

I just had a quick look on their website and can only see Urethane types listed for 80 series.
Do you know what pedders outlet might have rubber type?

I have urethane ones and they chewed out in no time. I saw a post on another
forum a while back and phone a Pedders store in
Adelaide and they confirmed they have either rubber or the urethane ones. That was late last year and I haven't got around to replacing
mine yet.

for
suspension components stick with rubber and toyotas ones if they are still available. a few others on another
forum have just been through this exercise and wish they had not used eurethane bushings. they swapped them out again with OEM rubbers and were more than happy.

they also found that OEMs from Yota were comparable if not cheaper than aftermarket.

I know that Pedders make rubber castor bushes as I just bought some (cheaper from
Suspension Stuff than from Pedders if anyone is looking). I know they also make poly castor bushes as the
shop I'm getting my bushes replaced at uses Pedders poly ones and not the rubber ones. Seems funny to BYO of the same brand...
Not sure that they make other rubber bushes- I had some trailing arm bushes replaced there earlier this year to pass QLD roadworthy and they said it was poly or poly and if I wanted rubber ones to get from Mr Toyota. So, it might depend on which bushes you're actually looking at replacing!

gday gn in my opinion the poly ones seem to give a harder ride than originals
however the polys seem to last longer but have heard some horrible noises from the polys under strain
personally id pay the dough for the toyota stuff

Hi Graham + Lynne
Can you elaborate why the blue are ok and rest of poly type not?
Do you think that they are harsher and could lead to other issues as per some other posts?
Do you think I maybe should stick with original rubber type?

1 Just my experience blue ones work, Red ones fall apart
2 Rubber ones too dear and dont allow for internal twisting like Blue ones

If you don't use genuine, always make sure whatever you use is as flexible as the originals. Link type suspensions, either triangulated or four bar, usually have a small degree of binding in them. Manufacturers compensate by using large rubber bushes or pressed steel open C channel locating arms that are designed to twist. If you use hard bushes, you will either chop them out quickly or eventually start cracking things.

Definately use rubber, genuine are best but aftermarket rubber from Don Kyatt spares used to be available.
We've had a few vehicles fitted with poly over the years, they ride "harder", if non greasable (few are) then they squeak and worse still will wear the steel components they are fitted to.
The son bought a Range rover that had poly fitted for about ten years according to the previous owner. Went to fit rubber as the poly were worn out and discovered the arms were worn to the stage that factory rubber bushes just fell out so had to refit poly again.

Well mine were the blue ones and they have chopped out in less than 80K. The bush has separated from the poly block.
I would fit the Toyota ones but have a lift so ned some caster correction.
