I have a 80 Series 4.5 with a stuffed exhaust valve. Any idea on costs for recon head or second hand motor?

Yeah very common with the 80 series on gas, bloke I know does a lot of klms in his 80 and decided to go LPG due the cost of running on petrol especially when it hit $1.70 a litre, already he has had to replace the head due to burnt out valves even thou he had them checked, it cost him 3g to do the head. Sounds expensive to me but maybe that's the going cost. He has since bought himself another head and has it hanging on his garage wall ready for the next time ?? He said the saving on gas has now cost him allot more in head repairs. Depending on how many klms yours has done will be the deciding factor on whether you keep it or not ?? They are a great 4wd even thou a bit dear to run the 4.5L petrol, without LPG I have seen these motors do well over 400thou without any problems just regular servicing. Im very happy with the prado BUT if I see an 80 series 95/97 multivalve turbo diesel auto for sale I will grab it (providing its a good one) I absolutely love them best 4wd I personally think Toyota ever made, missed out on a few weeks ago from Adelaide. All the best with your decision but if low klms and is what you want/need Id keep the old girl get her fixed run it on petrol and she'll keep on going. Regards Steve
