Walkers Crossing

I am a new member and thought I would ask if anyone wants road info for some of the NE South Oz roads. I have seen Walkers Crossing from the air today, first time in a few months the water has gone down quite a bit, but still a fair way off being open

Thanks, were heading that way in Sept. Here's hoping its open by then.
Plan at this point is Thargo-Cooks well- Cordillo Stn-Birdsville-Inside track- Coopers Crossing then back up the Birdsville track to Walkers Crossing to Innamincka. If it isn't open will just have to go back to Birdsville across and down to Innamincka via Cordillo Road. At least with bush camping we don't have to book anywhere and can change our plans at the last minute.
Cheers

Hi Old Girl

Walkers definately won't be open in September, Cordillo road from Birdsville via Cadelga open at the moment, bit rough in areas, but hey thats the bush.
You should be aroiund now, was at Innamincka yesterday, the town common is incredibly green weather is magnificent.

Thanks mack
Hubby works around Ballera, He said its fantastic. I was out there after the Cooper went down in 08. I couldn't believe the high grass at the 14km flood plain before Ballera. We were catching yabbies at the Durham crossing the size of my hand.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the offer.

Our long planned trip is in a bit of replanning now. Our trip is still starting ~ 6 July 2010. Originally, we were heading Gold Coast to Haddons Cnr, Birdsville, Poeppels Cnr, K1/Warburton, Birdsville track, Marree, Lake Eyre, Strez, Cameron's Cnr.... to home.

With the length restriction on the punt @ the Cooper (Prado & camper trailer >7.8m), we are thinking about going straight to Poeppels Cnr, backtrack to Haddons Cnr, then south to Innaminka, Strez (inc Camerons Cnr), Marree and Lake Eyre, up the Birdsville to dip my feet in the Cooper, then backtrack to Innaminka and then Gold Coast.

I appreciate people in the know guiding me wrt tracks etc. We had rejected the idea of Walkers Crossing, but is the above itinery workable with current road/track conditions?

Thanks very much for any assistance/guidance.

Great sounds like an excellent trip. Can't comment on the Desert stuff, I see the tracks are open with cautions and detours. Roads to Camerons, Maree ok, watch the overall length on the ferry though, must be <7.8m, Birdsville track has a caution at Moongarra Channel, should be ok though when you get there.
Keep an eye on the weather, with heavy rain earlier this year and regular follow ups since, the whole area is pretty soggy, if you are prepared you will have a great trip, the area is unbelievably green, possibility of getting wet is a small price to pay for seeing a 1 in 20 year event. you should try and fit a Lake Eyre visit in as well.
Have a great time, love to see some pics when you get back.
Cheers
