I have just had the miss fortune to watch Pat Callinan's 4WD adventures,
well not all of it as I turned it off after 1/2 and hour.
This time he did the Canning,
well I'm not sure because I just watched 5 minutes of the Canning and the rest was just advertising.
Any info given was nothing a city slicker wouldn't already know.
The show should be called is, Pat Callinan's Advertising bonanza and occasionally we go some where.

I wonder what the alternative is? I don't mind watching Pat, Roothy or Simon and Danny because they are doing things I like and going
places I like to go. I agree it's unfortunate that they have to flog stuff to be able to afford to do it but those are the times we live in. Most of the stuff on tv is absolute garbage and I sometimes feel like I've been dropped on another planet when I see what other people are enjoying but I think that's called getting old. Anyway, try not to be too hard on them as at least it's something close to entertainment. If they weren't flogging arb stuff etc then we would have to sit through some other product anyway. I"m sure that normal advertiser's are not climbing over themselves wanting to sponsor specialist shows so the guys have to build it in.
My opinion, good on them even if there are annoying flaws.

I think what people find annoying is that there are still the normal ad breaks.
So it is predominately just ads between ads!

"I wonder what the alternative is?" The alternatives are shows like the Bush Tucker Man or even Malcom Douglas. They had far more content & were sponsored by companies like Land Rover for example using subtle placement of the vehicle & badges to advertise the sponsors. They generally don't get on the camera & say this product is the best (just because that company is signing the cheques).
I find Pat's show nothing close to entertainment and his credability is pretty low when he recommends products solely on who pays. For me it's a case of having no 4x4 show is better than a rubbish advertorial.
Cheers Craig............

Fair enough and I tend to agree but the operative word is "were" sponsored. The shows mentioned are no longer with us. Throw in the Leyland brothers and a few others. Sounds old to say 'they don't make em like they used to'. The cars are way better but the drivers aren't. It's why I was asking for alternatives. Mike

i will add to this and say that i wish some would stay at
home and watch these "crap" shows, it would save many people like us that live out in the bush from the pain of seeing those would be "watchers" stuck on the side of the road and begging """" please help us""""" ........ ask if they bothered to at least
CHECK the road conditions, """nah mate""" or do you know that this road is closed, did you see the
sign, ""yeh mate, drove past that"""" and bash on the
shop door, """ please maaaaate, i need some fuel"""" sorry mate CLOSED means CLOSED ............
I might be crap but PLEASE watch it, read up as much as you can and the tiny little bit you pick up could
well save your life ......... and to say the least make it a fun trip and not a """ wish i had done that """ trip........
I now watch more than i ever have and read even more when i plan a trip and i live VERY remote and have done so for the past 10 years (and with 3 kids....) .... the more you learn the more you realise there is to learn ...

Just a thought, how about a bit more encouragement to guys like Equinox, Mick O and all the other travellers we have right here on Exploroz. I would much rather watch their videos and read about the
places they visit and all without any ads. The only thing better is getting out there and doing it myself.
Some 13 or so years ago we enjoyed a trip down the CSR, the good wife did the video and I took photos of everthing that would stand still long enough. Must try and find it again........lol
Cheers Pop
