Hi All, Just returned from a trip to Ningaloo Station, and had problems maintaining satellite contact with my Explorist XL from Manilya to Carnarvon, and Geraldton to Muchea. Had similar problems on the way up there and I thought the bad weather might have played a part in that ? but on the way home the weather was very clear. My wife's Tom Tom also lost satellite contact a few times, but no where near as bad as my Explorist ! Is my GPS playing up or has anyone encountered similar problems ? Your assistance/comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Howard

Thats a tough question to answer, think you would need to provide more information on how often the Explorist had satellite issues? I have had my Explorist play up in funny ways due to the batteries not being fully charged, did my head in because it wasn't obvious, you think it switches on so all should be good, but changed the batteries one day and all was good. On the reception issue put together some type of pattern and then re-visit the issue, may have been an issue with the satellites themselves, weather, who knows?

Hi TerraFirma,
This is the first time I have had trouble with this problem of not being able to track satellite's - being all over Australia and not one problem, 2 months ago went down south around Pemberton - no problems what so-ever ? very strange.. the unit was connected to vehicle battery at the time, and the AA batteries in the unit are half way discharged.

Had my Explorist a couple of years and never had a drop out over WA and SA/NT so it looks like you may have a real problem. Been to Ningaloo several times and always perfect reception. Cant work out why Tom Tom dropped out as well or maybe the Harold Holt base is still playing silly buggers.
