Hi All at ExOz
Have been driving Mitsubishi Triton petrol for many years and have to change to diesel, main reason being towing capacity 3 ton and fuel consumption.
Have to chose from below
Ford Ranger XLT 3L
Isuzu D Max 3Lt
Navara ST-X 2.5 Lt
Mazda BT-50 3Lt
All 4x4s and dual cabs , all have same specifications or very close. Any help on making decision from owners of these vehicles would be more than gratefull.
Regards Paintar

Hi Paintar
Personally, if you have no brand loyalty and they are all virtually the same, take them all for a test drive of at least half and hour and decide which you like the most.

I know there are good & bad vehicles in all shapes & form but I think you should try them all don't worry about the attitude of sales people it's the vehicle you're concerned about. I drove the navara & Triton both vehicles are very good. The Navara has a three tonne towing rate but I would not like to put that weight behind that sort of vehicle. There have been reports that the Navara has clutch problems & although covered by warranty it's the inconvenience associated with that problem. My final choices were the Triton then the navara only because of creature comforts & 10 year warranty on drive chain with 5 years warranty on other items complimented by 5 years roadside assist on the Triton. BUT, you have to like the look of them too. Good luck

Hi Paintar - I find it interesting that you have not listed the Toyota Hilux. I'm currently looking at dual cab utes and there are some good deals around at the moment with the end of financial year sales. They are all good utes, I took a few for a test drive, this week - and without any accessories or weight added they drive alot differently to a vehicle setup for touring. Then you look at the prices. A new SR5 hilux drive away is about $55-56K, while the Ford Ranger XLT is currently 38k drive away. A massive $17000 difference. I know that The hilux has the market share, has a nice interior and generally a nicer finish, but is it $17,000 better?

Anyway happy hunting.

I'm almost swayed by the Ranger. The Toyota sales rep was feeding me all of this garble about Toyota being the market leader, and nothing about why it's the hilux is a better vehicle than the other dual cabs. DeeMax was good but a little plain, maybe even a little boring, but did everything well. Mazda BT50 is essentially the same vehicle as the Ranger - maybe the mazda has better resale? Is the jury still out on 2.5L diesels having 3 tonne towing capacities?Cheers

Yeah don't buy the Hilux everyone is buying them, infact they are almost outselling Commodores. Superior, narr, people just buy them cos they look good.

Yeah, lots of people buy hiluxes cos they use someone else's money ie the shareholders' in the mining company. And i bet they get 'em much cheaper than the private buyers.

I am sure they are a fine vehice and I have nothing against them, just the price. And a reckon my Ford Ranger extra cab with the extra door is a much more practical vehicle than a Hilux extra cab for someone who doesn't need a dual cab but likes easy access to the space behind the seats

Cheers

Hi Paintar
I have a 2007 fordranger XL 3.0l turbo dsl Highrider Auto towing a 16 ft van.
Brought the ranger new and travelled all over Oz without any problems.
The wife and I live on the road, done 65000ks 80% towing van. I'm 100% happy with this vehicle.
Hope this helps with your decision
