Hi folks,

We bought a Waeco CF50 fridge/freezer a couple of weeks ago. We've used it once so far, and noticed that the outside thermostat reading didn't match what the thermometer said the temp was inside. Chalked it down to user error, and moved on.

Tonight we're packing for a 3 day trip and I've had the fridge on since 4pm. Set the thermostat to 3c and after a couple of hours, the outside readout said it was -2c and thermometer read 4c. Packed it with cold food earlier and checked on it just now .... outside readout says -7c and thermometer says +8c. I should add that we hardly ever hear the motor running, other when it is first turned on.

Honestly, I'm a bit miffed. Am I asking too much for the built-in temp reading to actually show the current inside temperature? Or do we have a dud Waeco and need to call up warranty? Or is it indeed user error?

Thanks
Sass.

Whereabouts did you put the thermometer to read the inside temp?

Assuming it is somewhere towards the bottom of the fridge then I'd say you've got a dud "thermistor" (temp sensor thingy) which is what I just had fixed on mine. If you're lucky the difference between actual temp and the built-in temp reading will be consistent and not too large in which case you might get through your trip before getting it fixed.

Hi Sass, The built in thermostat is sensing the temp close to the bottom of the fridge which will be colder, so the question is where is your second thermometer sensor. Daryl

Have been doing some more testing since the original post. Compressor wasn't running at -7c so I set it to -8c to give it a kick. After a time, built-in reading is now displaying -8c and I have two thermometers in the fridge. One at the bottom is now reading 1c (and my snags are starting to get a little frosty!) and the one nearer the top is reading 3c.

Compressor just turned off and built-in display is holding -8c, so shall check again later to see if the 1c/3c is also holding .... hopefully there *is* a consistant difference so we get through this trip at least. We're off on a 3 week trip in a couple of weeks, so perhaps a warranty call is needed and they can sort it out in the 2 weeks down time!

Hi Sass, 7Deg diference sounds a bit mutch, my waeco40 the diference betwean a thermometer in the bottom & the display is about 2Deg & i can live with that. Probably worth geting checked out. Daryl

I have the same fridge and I have a difference of between 2 and 4 degrees depending on the outside temp .. My secondary thermometer is stuck to the side of the fridge about 100 mm up from the bottom .. As I don't use it as a freezer very often it doesn't worry me too much .

Cheers

Fridge was on all last night and set at -3c, its consistantly reading 1c at the bottom, and 3c nearer the top now. So I'm confident enough to take it this weekend ... though Waeco will be getting a call next week!!

Thanks for the replies

When you get back take it for repair. I have two, a 60 and a DZ 50. They both hold their temp to with in 1c I run the 60 at -1 and at that temp the beer is nice and cold and the rest fine. The The Temp sender is at the end near the dairy compartment on the 60 and at the freezer end on the DZ 50. if you out a warm bottle of water in the fridge and just happen to have it pressed against the sender it will run hard until that bottle of water cools down. In that time you may have some ice on other items. Hence I alway put the warm stuff furtherest away from the dairy end
