Do you really have to have a portable unit? Why don't you set up an auxilary in your vehicle with an isolator/management unit?
I got a smart solenoid that has a jump start function, if it monitors a flat main battery (headlights left on..etc) and a good aux battery, it'll automatically give you a jump start...about $200 for the solenoid. Coupled with a good deep cycle battery, it works a gem.

What about buying a regular car battery and then putting inside a battery box (plastic box with connectors on the outside) This will be much cheaper than a Waeco and be more powerful as well.
If you get a flat you can then just use your spare battery to jump start the car.

I've got an Electra[?] from Kmart. Does the jump start thing okay and WILL run a couple of items for a short time, but they're not designed for it. Use a second battery. Royce www.funshow.com.au
