Hello
I have a second hand 2000 GXL landcruiser 4.2 diesel 1hz

Not too sure on how the sub tank is setup, I have searched the net and found very mixed results, So would appreciate some info from someone who actually owns the same vehicle.

I have put one tank through the main tank and was presently surprised to get 12L per 100k

I have since filled it up and have been running it on the sub tank since.
the fuel gauge still reads full even though I have done close to 100ks on the sub tank ?

So questions

Does the sub tank feed directly to the motor?
Does the fuel gauge read independently from each tank?

Thanks in advance

I think the 1 Hz and the 1hdfte are the same If so each tank has its own system and feeds seoerately to the motor

Tha main is 95 l and the sub in mine is 45l

The gauge reads which tank you are on and a SUB should appear in the gauge when using it.

same as above'
fuel gauge reads seperate tanks and changes as you change from running from whatever tank you are using.
I think th main tank is 90 liters, sub is 45,gauge should've moved by now may have moved a little and you not notice' toyota's seem to engineer their gauges to stay on full for a awhile but the last quarter seems to go fast.
My 105 1HZ has averaged a little less than 14/ 100 ks over 50000ks, extra bits take down the fuel economy, big trips often loaded to its maxmum GVM.
If you continue to get 12's youshould be able todo 1000ks on both tanks

Hi, I have a HZJ105R with Main/Sub tanks. The both feed to the engine - separately. When you push the [SUB] button on the dash - the fuel gauge registers the amount of fuel in the tank that is in use.

So - if the [SUB] light is not on the gauge is showing the main tank level
- if the [SUB] light is on the gauge is registering the level of the Sub Tank.

I am not sure if this is the case in all the 100 series models though. Did your vehicle come with the owners handbook?

I have the same vehicle as you and what Steve says is correct.

The switch controls solenoid valves for both the fuel and return to tank which determine where the fuel is drawn from. The float are sometimes badly set so that they do not move much at the start and then drain quickly. They actually measure the height of the fuel in the tank and because of the shape do not really represent volume of fuel well.

There are issues reported where the solenoids do not switch properly and you can get siphoning between tanks or suck from one and return to the other. If the SUB light is on I would just wait a while and see what happens after a few more kms.

Your fuel consumption is about the same as I get when driving normally.

cheers

Thanks for the info guys,
Yes the sub light is on, so all appears to be working as it should apart from the gauge still reading full.
I'll keep it on the sub and see what happens.

How much fuel did you put in the sub tank?
I have a similar vehicle, but with a 170 L long range tank. I do roughly 600Km before the guage starts to move.

Not sure mate,
I filled up both tanks after I bought it, the sub tank took less though.

Is all good - I took it for a bit of a dive this arvo and the guage is coming down now.
