Chassis Strength of Campervans

I recently purchased a Jayco Finch Outback model and wanted to put a second spare on the rear bar only to be advised that since it was a campervan with no solid box shape like a caravan and as a result, the extra weight on the rear bar could compromise the chassis integrity. Can anyone tell me whether they have any experience with this issue?

The chassis is designed to take the weight of one wheel. Even on the Sterling Outbacks the maximum weight permitted on the rear bar is 40 kg, and a spare on
mine weighs 37kg. Yours should be similar.
No doubt an acceptable solution could be engineered, but at what cost in dollars and weight?
The other issue to consider is what the extra weight on the back will do to stability.
Do you really need a second spare?

Thanks Terry - My need for the second spare is for the tow vehicle rather than the van and because we are really pushed for space it would suit our packing much better if I could put it on the back of the van if at all possible. I am not too concerned about the towing stability as I can shuffle the load in the van to get the ball weight right easy enough. I am sure some time and $$ could add some strength to the chassis but my question is, whether this is a fair dinkum concern? Are their many people out there who have had another 40kg on the back of their campervans for many
miles on rough roads without a problem??
