Prospecting around the Kalgoorlie area

My wife and I are looking at taking time off and go gold prospecting around Kalgoorlie. I was wondering whether there are any members who might have a lease that I may gain permission to prospect on.
This is my first time out after the purchase of a metal detector.
Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

1. Learn how to use Tengraph an online data base system of the Dept of Mines & Petroleum

Link http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/

Go to online systems and look for Tengraph....register and watch the demo tutorial..........the data base is huge and once you get your head around it it is a essential tool......it will take you a while to learn but you need to use it.......most of your prospecting site selection will be done before you leave home

If the DMP offices are not busy you may get lucky and a staff member will walk you through it hands on if you go into one of the district offices....(Kalgorlie are a very helpful office)
2. Select the leases you think are of interest..........use the Greg Harwood Oziexplorer geology maps and learn how to interact with them and the tenements
3. Contact the tenement holder....subject to what and who they are...most are quite obliging and helpful

3. A quick start for the Kalgoorlie area is to contact the offices of Paddington Gold and they are most likely to allow you in certain areas of their leases.....they will require to site your Miners Right and some Public Liability Insurance (APPLA membership is suffice for the insurance bit if you are a member)..then they might let you on and give you a map of where you can go....other companies may do the same

Main thing is stay legal ....always fill your holes......be very aware of the relevant legislation and respect the bush and the leases so you can go back

happy prospecting

Should have added this

if you havent got a GPS dont go without one...always save you vehicle / camp location each time you set out..so easy to wander off head down and be some km's from camp and get lost.....

also those tenement boundaries ..use the GPS to make sure you are where you should be.....stray outside them even totally innocently and your in strife.....

Hi Krazycaptain
Barrick Kanowna will let you go on some of there mining tenements for a 3 month period if you go to there office at 14 Williams Street Kalgoorlie with a miners right. Phone No (08) 90806111. October is the windiest month of the year around Kalgoorlie which will make it uncomfortable for detecting and from then on it will get far to hot. Good luck,Image Could Not Be Found if you find some gold and let us all know where you found it.
