Any one know what beach at Double Island is like at Present?

Hi All, Planning on a few nights camping this weekend at Teewah Double Island.

Anyone been on the beach lately - is it badly eroded - or is there plenty of beach to drive on? I know the beach from point to Rainbow is a nightmare; )

I know sometimes at high tide you can still have 30 to 40 metres to drive on - and other times its pushing close to the base of teh cliffs..

cheers

Zebu

We were up there a couple of weeks back and the beach is fine.
It was a no go then at high tide as they were quite big tides.

Cheers

Comments on another forum a few days ago indicate the beach is flat and hard at low tide but high tide might be an issue.

we went over the Leisha track at Double Island Point 5 days ago . The approach from the south is dry and a little chopped up but fine to drive. On the north side there is a lagoon on the beach but there is just enough room on exit to turn either right or left. We went through to Rainbow Beach with no problems and we were about 90 minutes after the low. I wouldn't leave it any later than that and preferably closer to the low. There are lots of dead trees sticking up through the sand but it is negotiable. The Mudlo rocks are pretty well buried under sand.

Zebu, I am pretty sure that you will have to get a permit to drive on the beach now also, best you check.

You are quite right Bazooka. Lucky we were'nt pulled up by rangers. Presumably they would have been lenient as the changes had only started a few days prior. Come to think of it we had a ranger right behind us on the Leisha track but he was pre-occupied like us with the Navara and boat that had got tangled up with the carpet on the north exit.
