G’day All,
Most
young blokes get their first car and that’s the last you see of them. A couple of months ago I wrote about looking forward to many years of 4wding accompanied by my son and his Zook. I’ve gotta tell you… we’ve had a ball. We just spent ten days on Fraser and his little car performed faultlessly. Goes to show you don’t have to spend a fortune. I think (I hope) 4wding is one of the things that will keep us close and doing things together.
By the way… Just a tip. We often go to Fraser before Christmas and head
home Boxing Day. There’s very few people there. The locals say that’s when it’s at its quietest. The crowds start arriving Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
I’ve attached four photos… Three of my boy and one I just like the look of.
Myles.

Myles I have a fully kitted out D40 which I reckon owes me around 60K and brought a $2500 Nm Pajero Guess what gets the most use ? Also getting caught in tides isn't a prob or worry and neither is the salt water when the whole car only owes me the price of a decent winch. But then I do only live 40 K from Fraser ............ so it's all good fun.
Cheers

G'day Myles,
Brings back memories of my first 4WD a Suzuki LJ80. First of the 4 stroke zooks & only 800cc!
My best mate who had a cruiser with a chevy V8 conversion, gave me a real hard time about buying it but after a few trips with him & me actually not getting stuck where he did he had to admit that it was not half bad. Believe it or not I travelled much of the outback with it in the late 70's. Bet no-one would dream of doing that in an 800cc 4WD these days!
Enjoy the time with your son.
Cheers
Stu

I will. Thanks Stu.
We fitted front and rear recovery hooks before we left… didn’t need them.

You probably won't need them recovery hooks. Those little trucks float over just about everything. Speaking of floating they do float down rivers really
well. Speaking from experience.
Ultimate embarrasment for me a few years ago was having a friends zook (same model as your sons) having to pull my Hilux out of the Haunted stream in the
Vic high country. Her zook went straight across the other side & when I tried to follow her I got hung up on the rear step of the Lux. Bugger!
Cheers

Hi Myles
thanks
Brings back great memories of my son and I doing a bit of 4wding together.
By the way can you get past North Ngalla to
Sandy Cape. We were there in November and it was a no go.
Cheers Sid

i've just got off the phone with a mate who was on Fraser over xmas - newyear. said he got up to
Sandy Cape, but the Northern Rocks were a real struggle and heaps of people were getting caught up on thier diffs etc. he has a 3" lifted Patrol and dented up his side steps and said the drop down to
the beach after the rocks had him on a massive lean that he thought may tip him over. mate said they had to build the track up with logs to get the other vehicles down it, but said when he came back to that same spot, it had a heap of sand there, so maybe someone else did more work to it after they got through.
from what i can work out, there was a big
water hole in the
Indian Head bypass track (i think that's where he was talking about from what i could work out), that claimed atleast half a dozen vehicles as they tried to drive through it. i am hoping he will have pics or that someone else can verify what he was saying, just so i know he isn't B.S ing me....lol

don't need confirmation anymore, i have since seen pics on another
forum, and i can see why it claimed a few vehicles.
some people need to realise what depth their vehicles can go through water before the air intake is effected, or invest in a
snorkel.

G’day Sid,
Didn’t go as far as the North Ngkala Rocks or
Sandy Cape. Been there many times before and this time I just wanted to take my son over the southern rocks which was recently washed away. I can post a photo of the new track if anyone wants to see it. Sorry, I can’t comment on the cape’s accessibility.
Rumpig,
The holes you refer to aren’t at the
Indian Head bypass, they are at
Waddy Point. There’s a new
warning sign as you approach
the beach and there are plenty of opportunities to negotiate around the holes. The
sign warns that the holes are deep and there’s no reason they can’t be avoided.
Cheers,
Myles

I beleive this hole is different place, from what i'm hearing it was at
Indian Head..
QUOTE... "I went through there on the 27th & the big puddle wasn't there. Went through there a day or two later & it was"
below are some pics copied from another
forum, i'm not sure who took them, but i'm pretty sure it's
Indian Head, that's what they are saying to me.

There is a park alert for
Indian Head, saying bonnet deep water. Get help from experienced 4wders if you wish to cross.

Rumpig,
That’s certainly a completely different look to what we experienced at
Indian Head. The quote states it wasn’t there on the 27th… we left on the 26th. It’s amazing how quickly thinks change up there after rain. There were even major changes to the inland tracks from one day to the next as there was a lot of rain before Christmas. There were major storms just after we left as
well. I've never seen so much water across the inland tracks as I did this trip. I’ve seen
Eli Creek running to the north one day and to the south the next.
Cheers,
Myles.

Know how you feel Myles re 4wd with your son, back in October we went 4wd with one of our daughters in her Navara, we all had an absolute ball, now the rest of the kids want to organise 4wd trips, looks like may be a goer next October. Can't wait.
It's fantastic doing things with the kids, (pretty big ones now, they have their own kids lol)
Cheers

G’day Dunworkin,
My daughter’s partner has sold his SS Holden Ute…. They are replacing it with something they can follow us with…. They want us to do Fraser again next Christmas so they can join us…. sounds beaut to me.
