Apologies if this has already been covered in another thread...my search didn't find anything.
The question was asked by my kids about where all the water from the Queensland floods will be headed. Discounting the
Brisbane River which flows out to sea.
I tried google to see if I could follow the rivers, creeks, tributaries, but alas.. I got lost!!!!
Is it heading towards the Diamantina, Cooper then onto Lake Eyre or is it headed towards the Murray/Darling?
Is there a simple answer and does anyone know?
Cheers...Fab.

Look here. It gives a simple overview of all the major river systems.

Cheers dereki.... I thought I'd hit a winner with thread 83540 but it side tracked talking about how reliable donation collection agencies were.

OK...so looks like the lions's share will end up in the Murray/Darling basin with a bit headed towards the Diamantina.
Thanks again dereki.

The BOM site is also good. Go to the radar pages and on the right tick either "river catchments " or "major rivers and lakes".

Fab,
Water from the western side of the Great Divide from
Toowoomba to NSW Border region, will be heading down either the Weir/MacIntyre/Barwon River system or the Condamine/Balonne River system to the Murray Darling system.
Water from the Maranoa river will also flow into the Balonne River just north of
St George.
The
Warrego River out near
Charleville ends up in the
Darling river south of
Bourke. Most of the water from further west either fills inland floodplains/lakes or goes into the channel country.
Water from about Mt Moffatt across to
Taroom through to Kingaroy flows north east to the coast.
Hope that helps :)
Cheers Kev

Hey Kev, My computer died what timing, back again now. I hear the flood in Charlies creek was sucked out by the
Condamine. We went for a drive out to Kingsthorpe and Gowrie
Junction. I thought the width of the flood would have been wider. The force through the valley must have been terribly fast. Hope store supplies are coming through now the speed of the road works is amazing.

Sharon,
We opened the Charley's creek
bridge yesterday for all west bound traffic so hopefully we will be getting supplies from that way.
I see today they are starting to give a bit more regional towns coverage again :) I had sent "Sunrise" a nice email yesterday to remind them that we we're still isolated and that
Condamine was a ghost town and water was still rising.
I hope Eucha residents stay safe in Victoria as I have just heard that they may have to evacuate today due to flooding.
We also saved an Echinda yesterday that was washed down the Charleys Creek and stuck in
debris in the
bridge railings :)
Cheers Kev

Hi Fab and others, I will add that the recent floods in
Toowoomba city ends up in the
Condamine. There are still some people around that think the water that flooded
Toowoomba City went through Murphys Creek and Withcott.
Cheers.

This article from The Australian gives a pretty good description, but before going to the Lockyer Creek a lot of water went down Murphys Creek and a couple lost their lives.
The Australian - Toowoomba Flood There is also a couple of other creek systems on the western side of
Toowoomba which also go to the
Condamine. The one going past my place near Glenvale ,
Spring Creek, was running about 4 metres deep in
places and very ferocious.

Old Girl - I am constantly amazed by the number of people who believe the water in
Toowoomba caused the damage in the Lockyer. This is our electorate - when looking at the maps it is handy to note that the Lockyer Creek headwaters are roughly about east (over the edge of the range) from about Geham.
The
Toowoomba water (as lectured to me by my son the surveyor in
Toowoomba) has a catchment in
Nelson Street which then flowed south to north and goes west and into the
Condamine. As I went to school in
Toowoomba I still find it hard to believe......and still get the horros when I see the footage.
The Lockyer Creek water filled up because of the storm cell which came in from the north-east (the super storm) and with the amount of water coming over the range (north of
Toowoomba)......there was no chance.
Saw a photo of a creek about 4 metres deep and when asked where that was it turned out to be the UP lane on the
Toowoomba range. Could not believe it.
Very glad you made it
home safely, Old Girl.

Gives me the shivers too. I saw that footage of the down section last night. Wow the rain over the edge of the range must have been so intense. I've had a few friends ask me if ive been down there to have a look. I cant bring myself to go. I have seen personal footage not released of Chalk drive Neil st
intersection. There was a mound of water in the middle. When the water went down there was a small car with two women in it and thankfully they survived. I've got some pictures of the creek at Cambooya. But I cant load them onto our dinosaur computer. Will have to wait for the laptop to get fixed. I also want to finish my blog of our trip. The Darling looks fantastic. Probably in flood by now.
Cheers
