Hi Guys and Gals,
well went out this morning to try and get my new 12' beach rod wet, went down the end of my road thru roundabout instead of going left to redhead turned right to go up track, cruising along track in 2 wheel drive, hit a soft patch, and got a little slowed down, shifted into 4wd, realised i hadn't set my hubs yet (usually get thru it in 2wd) and heard a bang and hilux stalled. what the heck? , so i get out and have a look, couldn't see anything at first glance, so had another look and found my front prop shaft, the rear pinion was being held on by one bolt and ithad twisted and taken out my 4wd light wires, had no
tools on board( unusual for me) so i rang my wife woke her up, then a guy pulled up in a green range rover, asked if i needed help, i asked if he had a 12mm and 13 mm spanners. he did so i ripped one from the rear propshaft and did a quick fix. locked the old girl in 4wd, dropped my tire pressures down, and gently but firmly pulled of my little hole. the not so funny thing was out of four people who went passed me, only one stopped to lend a hand/ tools.
I didn't get to go fishing and i did get my truck fixed and drop off the
tools at a friends place, for the guy. Thanks to the guys at All 4x4 kotara.
Thanks mate whoever you are.
So moral of story is to
check your pinion flange bols every now and then, i have a habit of forgetting to do the transfer case end, so this is my second call third one won't happen.
one other thing, where i get on to
the beach, theres not much room for too many vehicles so i wait till i get further in to air down, due to safety.

Nothing Wrong with Rangie, Landy Drivers then Eh!...LOL.
Its a wonder the thing wasn't vibrating its guts out prior to getting there?
Lucky there was no more damage.
Cheers Axle.

mate i had nearly the whole front end off it, and injector pump( was trying to swap it for a working one, but had an airleak in the front of it, so i swapped bits off the one i swapped in, and put my original one back in.) and the thing still ran!!
was going fast at the time as i almost put the diff on the ground.
drives me insane, as i usually go over everything twice. I'm not a mechanic, yet but will be in next couple of years.
oh
well will make sure i do the job properly when i swap out my transfer case either this week or next!!!
I'm not bagging out landy drivers, drove a chev powered 350 range rover and enjoyed it.
his one sounded awesome with the v8 in it.

Someone once told me that Rover owners have a lot in common with Harley owners. They stop for lunch, the women do all the cooking and the guys get out their spanner roll and tighten up all the bolts so they can get back
home again!! LOL!! Michael

So the morals of the story are............
Put the hubs in early.
Don't engage 4x4 with the hubs out. (It makes a loud noise)
Drop tyre pressures prior to getting on the sand.
Don't do you're own maintenance ;-)
Ahh nothing like learning the hard way. (We've all been there :-))
Cheers Craig.......

Hi Crackles, waiting for your humours comment.lol
usually i do put hubs in before moving, which would of caused the failure before i got into the sand part!!! i agree, i wouldn't have needed to ask for help.
i don't get any noise when engageing 4wd without front hubs in, i would
check your front end if you do!!!
was being lazy and didn't want to block the entry whilst i aired down, be polite, usually i do it at
home, which is 400m away.
can't not avoid doing my own maitenance, due to debt i can't afford to get my vehicle serviced, might have to put red light at front door, get the wife to pimp me out lol!!!
yeap, now i have to triple
check everything which adds another hour or two onto my servicing times, bugger. i am usually a very good mechanic, as i take mn't rush the job, if the service time in the book says 3 hours i usually finish an hour or so behind them. using hand tools.
Thanks for the laugh, it will help me when i swap my wheels front to rear and do a transfer case sometime this week, then a couple of months and i'll do my 5 speed conversion!!! yeah i know, but i have to get my shafts shorten and front shaft lenghtened, i may aswell go for a crawler setup in it, so i can go where no stock hilux (3 inch lift) will go!!!!
