Fishing along the Barry Way

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has done any fishing in the river along the Barry Way, south of Jindabyne. I'm thinking of heading down that way in a few weeks and will be looking for a good camp site (amenities not necessary) for a few days. Hopefully catch a few good fish.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Michael

G'day Michael, drove that way several years ago, & while not fishing, did notice
access to the various waterways was very restricted by blackberries. As for
campsites, the one at Suggan Buggan was the only one we thought that looked
ok, but waterway was small. There are others, & maybe flows are better now,
as we were there in the drought. I doubt you can have a fire anywhere
at the moment either. Big camping area where you turn to McKillops Bridge
but we didnt check the water. Others may have better info. cheers.....oldbaz.

Hi Oldbaz,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that they had some fires through the area about 2 years ago and this cleared out a lot of the undergrowth so hopefully river access should not be too bad.

Hi Michael,

the Snowy below Jindabyne is fairly poor for fishing. There are some fish around near the junction with the Jacobs and Pinch Rivers. I believe there have been some Bass releases which may have improved the fishing opportunities. I recall a fairly decent camping area near the Jacobs. Good luck. I'll be interested to hear how you go.

We stayed at the Jacob's river campground in early January. While I didn't go fishing, a young man from the US walked up the river and returned with 3 nice brown trout. Said he lost a few more as well. Took him all day.

Hi CB55,

Thanks for the information on Jacobs River campground and the US Guy. Walking the river is a great way to relax and 3 fish is a decent feed.

Can you give me any more information on the Campground. Any facilities, river access, safety etc.

Rgds,

Michael

G'day Michael,
The wife and I spent 3 days at Jacob's river campground, great spot, right on the river, access to he river is easy at the campgound, but lots of blackberrys and scrub blocking access as soon as you leave the camp. We had a great time, very relaxing, not many people stopped there and the toilet / tables have all been renewed in te last few months. Highly recommended.

G'day Michael.
Traveled this road a couple of years ago but not fishing. There are several Camp Areas adjacent to the Snowy River, we camped at Willis Camp Area (NSW) this was almost on the border.
The camp Areas with APPROX grid references are:-

Jacobs River Camp - 36 53"02.3 S -- 148 26"38.1 E

Halfway Flat Camp - 36.46"04.4 S -- 148 25"09.1 E

Prince River Camp - 36 47"20.8 S -- 148 24" 20.3 E

Burning Waters Camp - 36 49"15.8 S -- 148 23" 43.5 E

Willis (NSW) Camp - 36 53" 01.6 S -- 148.25" 00.4 E

Border ---------------------------------------------------------------
Willis (VIC) Camp - 36 53" 45.9 S -- 148 25" 17.7 E

Hope this will help.
