Chopped 200 Series.

Son has an agricultural service business, & for years has complained of the lack of
a vehicle to convey clients around in comfort & also carry merchandise. The
answer came last week in the form of a chopped 200 Diesel wagon. Chop &
chassis extension done in Hervey Bay. Dont know the name of the business, but
appears to be a very tidy job. Chassis extended by about 1/2 a metre maybe &
some sort of rear suspension upgrade, allows for a tray back that is wider than
most dual cabs & probably a similar length...take a pallet easily. I wasnt able to
get GVM details, but will find out. He was also a bit shy on cost too, but the
business will handle that. I didnt think it rode any better (on rough stubble pdks)
than the previous hilux, & the turning circle is horrendous. But big inside with
all the usual wagon luxuries. That constantly shaking ARB bar would drive me
nuts, & make the spotties vibrate badly. Perhaps it is ok on good roads. Sorry
no pics..didnt get a chance yet...or a drive either....will work on it......oldbaz.

I've seen one of them too. Expensive.

I'm surprised at your comment about the turniing circle. In its original form the wagon has an amazingly small turning circle and I can't see 500mm of chassis extension making it "horrendous".

Nevertheless, I'm sure your son will enjoy the end result.

ours is exteneded and it does make a big diff to turning, it can be a pain to park .....
It in my opinion makes it drive better with the ext in the chassis, seems to hold a line better and not jump around on very rough stuff, kinda like "tram line" it goes where you point it ... never had understeer (yet) but a 75 std dont go real fast either ...

Joe, yours is a 70 Series. It had a shocking turning circle to start with.

Oldbaz's son chopped a 200 Series. I can make a U turn in my 200 in a suburban back road without curbing it. With my previous trayback it was a 3 point turn, at least.

Longer wheelbase makes a lot of difference to the turning circle.
79series wheelbase is 330mm longer than a 200series (3180mm vs 2850mm) which is 1/3rd of a metre.

Do you recall Mr And Mrs Al (Vic) who were members on here a little while ago. He has a buisness called Darkside Conversions which does what your after. Google Darkside or Grierson Engineering. Member Sir Kev had a 100 series converted by him. No affiliation but Al is a good and honest bloke.

I will second that Fred, I have not had the pleasure (yet) of meeting Young Kev face to face, but I agree with you that he is a bit "rubbery"!! Mind you, he will not yield when it comes to choosing certain colours & maroon seems to be his favourite. Poor bugger. LOL

G'day Oldbaz
Had my 100s cut and stretched 3 months ago and am very happy so far. Yes the turning circle is now like a small truck and whilst in the Vic high country over Christmas dragged the guts a few times so will need to do something about that. The stretch is 650mm and the tray is 2100mm long and 1950mm wide. Weight after stretch is 2.5t plus canopy. I'm towing a 3t+ Caravan and it doe's tow very well. Will be doing the Cape in July so will know more after that.

Both of them separated.Had the rear shockies replaced. Drove the 5 Kms back to the caravan, went to pump up the air bags, got a hole in one. Probabaly not my week, getting it replaced tomorrow in Hobart
