I'm planning a trip with a few mates from
Brisbane to the
Lighthouse at Wilsons prom and returning via
Mansfield to
Dargo and then across the
Limestone rd to Suggan Buggan and up the Barry Way to
home. On the way down I thought a side trip to the highest rd in Australia would be Cool, how long would it take for the side trip.

Mick,
I was a little confused about your route there, but I have recently driven from Corryoung to
Omeo via Mt Pinnibar to
Jindabyne.
My advice would be from corryong to drive south to
Scrubby creek track which is
sign posted. It is a very steep ascent to get up off the Benambra/Corryong rd to the east but once on top it is great drive. Head W to MT Pinnibar which is fantastic and 360 degree
views including Mt Kosioszko. Great drive from there east to
Tom Groggin Murray river crossing (half a day). At this point you could cross the
Murray river and head to
Jindabyne, but if you have the time I would go South down
Davies Plain track and linking up with your
Limestone rd west to Suyggan Buggan then Barry way as planned? I havn't completed the Davies Plain trk as it was closed due to storm damage but is open now.
Great country, a few
brumbies, fantastic bush and you can still see the devastation form the fires in some
places. A good map to get is High Country Victoria 1:25000 (Hema).
Have a good one, any track you pick down in that area will be great.
Be gentle on the vehicle as it is rocky and rough in
places but steady as she goes and you will have a good time.
Hope this helps.
Regards Will

I'd allow a full day to head up the Nariel Valley, accross to Mt Pinnabar via Wheelers creek then over Mt Gibbo & down to Benambra.
Cheers Craig.............

G'day Mick,
Great country, will be a fantastic trip. (360

Just be aware that trees can come down any time, so carry a chainsaw and a drag chain for the just in case.
