Hey guys, I am travellling from the Southern
Gold Coast to
Goondiwindi but dont want to go over Cunnighams Gap again, what is the alernate route? Someone said I could go out the back route through Nerang and Warrick? and someone else suggested going to
Toowoomba along the Gore Hwy?
Cheers

Toowoomba range is an alternative but it is a range like Cunningham's Gap.
Alternative is
Heifer Creek road. Go to Gatton (don't bypass) and about 5km further on (just before Grantham) turn left and follow signs to Clifton to go up through
Heifer creek. From Clifton go through Leyburn and onto
Goondiwindi.
Slower road but less trucks and not as steep if towing. Change of scenery too.
A Radical alternative maybe go south and follow Bruxner highway out to
Goondiwindi.

Heifer Creek Road is closed indefinitely due to land slips (or risk of land slips) since the SE Qld floods.

I personally would take the Bruxner Hway via Kyogle - but what is wrong with
Cunninghams Gap - just a bit slower with the stop and go still on -or zNerang-
Beaudesert-
Warwick - on Mt Lindsay Hway - either way probably further than
the Gap

Why would you go all the way to
Toowoomba - the range road is a mess anyway - lots of landslips through the floods - and still some difficulty - long steep climb - Nerang-
Beaudesert-
Warwick is the way to go in my opinion definitely.

"Nerang-
Beaudesert-
Warwick is the way to go in my opinion definitely." means you still have to go up Cunningham's Gap.

All 4 lanes of the
Toowoomba range are now open. Why don't you want to go via Cunningham's Gap?

The distance from the
Gold Coast is about the same (ie via Cunningham's Gap or via
Warrego Highway &
Toowoomba). You can look at the different options via a directions search on
http://maps.google.com.au
Personally I'd probably take Cunningham's Gap (Beaudesert/
Warwick) over the
Toowoomba Range. The Range is good until you get to the end part and then it is STEEP! Much steeper than Cunningham's Gap. If you get stuck behind a truck you're stuffed. On the contrary, the speed limit through
the gap is 70 and I can make it up at that speed in my N/A 80 series :)
Like everyone else, I'm wondering why don't you want to go through Cunningham's Gap?
