Jayco Hawk - Driving lights out of sequence

Picked up my new ten year old jayco hawk yesterday - had to use a 7 pin flat to round adaptor for driving lights hook up, if lights on pajero car are off then jayco lights all work well but if I have car lights on then Jayco lights are out of sequence and looks like a chirstmas tree everytime I indicate or break. Anyone know what I can do to rectify.

Sounds like one of your plugs has the earth wired incorrectly.

Look hear and check the wiring of the vehicle plug, then the trailer plug and then the adaptor.

Thanks Matt, printed the diagram off and will have a look at this tonight - wondering though if they were earth wired incorrectly why do they all work correctly independantly but not together and only go wrong if I have lights turned on on the car. But will check anyway, I am a complete novice as this is my first camper trailer and first time towing anything so this will be a good starting point.

With multiple filament lights, if an earth is loose, corroded or missing, individual lights can find an earth through other lights and become series circuits.
Then once you power the respective series light, you then have the same potential being applied from both sides and no potential difference means no current can flow. Light goes out.

Check the diagrams, Im sure it will be a simple loose grub screw in either the trailer or your vehicle plug wiring.

Also change the plug or socket to eliminate the use of the adaptor. Adaptors only introduce additional points of failure.
The adaptor may not be your point of failure this time, but still I good idea to eliminate it.

Had that trouble when connected the round plug upside down Hard to do but can be done
Also some have pin 2 wired as reverse lights when usually aux on a van.

Dont use the Heavy duty 7 pin diagram in that link as its different to what is normally used.

Pin 3 is normally earth as in all the other diagrams
