Does anyone have experience with the EPE Speedy Tent or the Malamoo 3 second tent?
I am particularly interested in knowing if they are really water proof and durable.
I have other larger tents including an (OZTent RV-4) which are water proof, but would prefer the convenience of the very quick erection and fold up of these types of tents.
If you have such experience, would you recommend taking the larger water proof tent as a backup on a 3 week trip?

Rob,
I have had
mine for over 3 years and I have camped in all conditions including sleet near
Lithgow. Its a 2 man but relly only good for 1 person.
I use it for single night stays and I do not always peg it down (unless it is very windy).
Just flip, open and put in the mattress, bedding and clothes bag and I'm done.
There is no wear on the and looks as good as new.
Any more than one night I do put a tarp over it. Any longer I have a larger tent.
Pro's
Quick - up and down
Easy comfortable
Waterproof
Packs small
Better and easier than a swag.
Con's
A little small for long stays - requires a tarp or shelter to give room.
Can be a little cold in low temperature due to in built fly and light weight fabric.
For me when solo its an ideal tent. 9 out of 10

Thank you Tony, Could you tell me which of the two tent brands you have or do you have something different than the Speedy or the Malamoo. I have also seen another made by Ray's Outdoors.

Rob,
Mine is an EPE (Explore Planet Earth) Speedy tent.
I brought it new in 2008 for $76.00 from an online supplier who I can't remember.

As the comments above reflect, I have the EPE Speedy tent and concur completely. Have a centre pole tent for more than two nights - sometimes a little bit of luxury is required. Had decent rain and no leaks with either. Saw the Malamoo at the last camping show and it is a little larger but the EPE suits me.

Ditto.
Same same. I have a
Southern Cross for longer stays and use this for shorter stays or when on the move. I have been in heavy rain ( 100mm overnight) and not a drop inside.
I have got
mine from Anaconda. Can't remember the brand. 2 man is really 1 man though.

G'Day Rob,
I also have an old OZ Tent about 15 yrs old and still going strong. My Daughter wanted a tent so rather than get a toy one I got one that I may want to use. Got the 2 man Malamoo and she had 4 friends for a birthday camping trip, long weekend.
Well both tents were put up and it rained for nearly 3 days, very heavy at some times, neither tent leaked and all was good. I was originally told about these tents being used by the army overseas. Friend has one and says it has withstood extreme wind and rain.

My mate had the EPE and I then bought the Mallamoo both in the large size,my mate has since bought the Mallamoo after seeing
mine and likes it better, the Mallamoo has a little vestibule to keep your shoes under cover at night and ventilate a bit better.
I leave my Blackwolf at
home now as we mainly only do 1 night stays when on the road and these are so much quicker and lighter, 3 odd kilos instead of 20 odd.
We have experienced a heavy downpour when in central Australia and all bedding was kept dry although I carry a tarp as a backup incase whe get caught in relentless rain
We go away for 3 to 4 weeks at a time and are confident with them and a tarp as additional backup if needed
Would not hesitate to recommend if the size suits you

We've got one of the Speedy 2 man tents, and used it in
Bendigo at the weekend. It was our first chance to
test it in the rain, and it stood up
well. I felt a couple of drips in the morning, but suspect more likely a bit of condensation on the internal roof, rather than anything leaking through. We found it warm, but a but small for two of us. I gather they now make a three man version which we'll look into.
I cant recommend it highly enough for convenience and speed when you're making those one night stops.

Hi,
We have 2 0f the Malamoos which we bought after watching, speaking etc with other owners. Perfect for the overnight stay, or longer trips where you are moving everyday, or where weight is an issue. We have a Foxwing to put over them in need.
We had rain on them last weekend without an issue, and have seem them in 70klm winds with no adverse effects.
Regards,
Michael
For longer says, we use the Blackwolf Turbo.
