I'm looking to buy a REAL Humvee (Not a Hummer H1) and I wanted to know if anyone out there has some REAL information on them, such as performance, road worthy compliance and/or importation. I know of at least one ExploreOz member out there that has one. I'm only after real and useful information from people that have had prolonged experience driving a HMMWV not just hollow opinions please.

Am I right in assuming that you are looking for a military spec HUMVEE rather than the civilian spec Hummer H1.

The military spec HUMVEES are very had to get now due to current rolls of the US military and most have been highly modified to withstand roadside bombs.

I've been told that the military now drive them till they are trashed and they are then destroyed.

Something like this may interest you tough..........

Hummer for sale

We've had ours since 2002 after it spent the first 15 years of its life in Saudi Arabia with the USAF.
I did the RHD conversion and all the work necessary for ADR compliance in order to get it registered in NSW at home in the shed so I guess you could say I know a bit about them if that includes completely dissasembling one and then rebuilding it.
We've trvelled all over Oz in ours including many of the iconic tracks and it is the supreme cross country desert vehicle.
I also know of a couple here in Oz for sale.
The US govt and the manufacturer (AM General) do not want private citizens to own them so there are unlikely to be too many more becoming available ever.
To save RSI email me on ozhumvee at hotmail dot com and I'll give you a phone number to call.

Wish I were looking for a Humvee; I would know where to go or who to ring. Get more envious when I see your signature like:

1988 Humvee
1996 Oka Motorhome
Not many people can say/write that, you lucky b.... Still torn between two lovers, I guess.
Cheers,
Willem
