hello all
i am concidering the option of a pretol Hilux, as the turbo diesel variety still have a high resale price. I just have a few questions.
-what are the petrol (2.7) litre motor engine like on the 2001 models? can they two a 1 tonne(ish) fully loaded camper trailer easily?
-what are they like with day to day driving? would they be better than a chipped turbo diesel?
- also what are they like offroad? with small mods like tyres, lift, etc, could they be a good learning but also intermediate 4x4?
-is there any mods or improvements you recommend?
all your opinions would be great
thanks again!

G'day,
I own a 2000 2.7 petrol Hilux that just clocked up 300,000 km. I use it to tow a loaded trailer for a 6 hr each way journey to my other property & it never misses a beat. Bit thirsty compared to a diesel but it keeps up a much better road speed on the hills compared to my previous non tubo diesel Hilux.
The only thing that I miss of my previous diesel is the low end torque when driving off road which the petrol motor seems to lack but it more than makes up for it in the ability to keep up speed on the open road.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Stu

I have never had a 2.7 but I understand they are the better of the petrol options on that model.
I bought a KZN165 (factory turbo) about a month back for under $12k so they can be found if you look for a while.
Mine has (had) many little niggles that I have mostly fixed, but its a great bus after the previous 3 non turbo ones Ive had. Goes like the clappers and tows my 1600kg boat without a problem also, though hills are in short supply round here!
