I am looking to install a larger capacity intercooler for my BT 50 and don't have any knowledge of which one is the most reliable. Cheers Bigbuddy

Google cross country intercoolers, they are a SA mob who make upgrade intercoolers and there may be one for the BT50.

Hi Bigbuddy,

Out of genuine curiosity, I want to ask, why do you want to install a larger intercooler, ie what do you expect to gain, what else do you intend to modify in conjunction with changing the intercooler, and what's your 'payback' calculation.

I ask because I thought of upgrading the exhaust on our car, but really struggle to see a reasonable payback, apart from a claimed increase in performance, and I struggle to put a value on that.

Anyway, good luck in your quest, and I look forward to further feedback.

Rob.

Hi RobnJane, if I can add a bit of info here...... First up I am not sure of your vehicle, from your photo looks like a Nissan 3.0 lt sorry if I am wrong.
It all depends on if your vehicle can use a performance chip or not. My old Isuzu MU now 16 years old was built before electronics or computer operated fuel injector pumps. So I have a 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust (which you can put on any diesel no matter what year) and a air to water intercooler, I have also adjusted the injector pump for more fuel and run up to 17 lbs of boost on the turbo. Now you do not just go and do this with out a bit of knowledge and have fitted a couple of extra gauges. First a boost gauge and most important a EGT gauge (Exhaust Gas Temperature).
MY old MU started life with 92Kw and 275Nm of torque, now running around 130Kw and over 400NMs of torque.
So it depends on what you want and nothing is impossible with a diesel motor.

Isuzumu, it's nothing to do with input so I don't see why your getting your skirt in a tangle.

I just couldn't see why you started your reply of with "Hi RobnJane, if I can add a bit of info here...... First up I am not sure of your vehicle, from your photo looks like a Nissan 3.0 lt sorry if I am wrong."

And then went on to say nothing relating to Nissans.

You were the one jumping to conclusions regarding Bigbuddy's post thinking he want mega power.

So you run a bigger turbo on you MU?

Hi RobnJane, thanks for your response, I understand where your coming from in justifying the expense. I travel approx 45,000km per year so if I can reduce any cost by 5% I'm happy, I am also looking to preserve the motor in anyway so if this extends the motors live as well it all helps. I am also looking at upgrading the exhaust. These changes may not work or be cost efficient but I will be comfortable with the changes I have made. regards Bugbuddy

I have a air to water intercooler and would not put anything else on. No matter what speed your doing the intercooler is still working at its best efficiency.

Bigbuddy i have a 2009 BT50 and have changed to a larger intercooler and also changed the exhaust system. You will be surprised at the extra torque you get. Have a look at the Northside4x4Brisbane site for info re. the intercooler. However, whilst their intercooler was successful it was very difficult to fit. lasue
