You Just Gotta love strong cars.

Lush undergrowth is everywhere these days and I was punting through the
undergrowth on the weekend where bracken fern was higher than the car in places and turned up a hill then clunk, Bang, CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK.

I thought "That sounds expensive" and got out of the car.

In the long grass was a huge rock near back wheel to big for me to move.

The rock was hidden in grass and as I drove up it the front passenger wheel
grabbed, the car rose up then the force spat it out backwards with chassis coming down onto it.
It rolled and grinded along the Patrols big heavy leading arm, just taking the paint off the bottom of the welded together body panel lip and crunched down the chassis rails, stopping near back wheel.

Only damage was torn off front mudflap, but you buy them in 6 packs
for Patrols anyway.

I wouldn't like that at all Josh.

Our rock was enough of a surprise, the only one around , and my best guess was that it was washed out from further up the mountain and rolled down near this grass covered track just awaiting - either that or it was placed their by a Toyota driver who knows I use this track regularly.

I heard a landcruiser owner was winched out of that area recently by a chinook after becoming entangled on a rock!

G'day Robin,
If all the rain has caused rocks to get washed down the hill, you could do some prospecting in them thar hills and hopefully you might get enough gold to get the track repaired LOL

Funny you mention that Dasher. Driving past Rushworth today I was thinking the same thing with all the rain they have, could some new gold around.

Robin
See the new Patrol still doesn't get to play in the bush yet, you might have scratched it in that terrain. Iv'e been hooked up like that a few times over at Ruffy when driving in similar terrain.

Your observant Murray - funny how things work out like that , I did not plan it that way but the older manual 4800 gets the hard stuff and the new auto 4800 gets the easy runs - I have researched the subject thoroughly now and decided that the main advantage of the new auto is that I haven't yet tipped over the cup of coffee that I take to work each day.

Its was near Ruffy to !

hi robin
join the the club
i had a simular experience with a large rock
and also a log with a bent trunk the rock only did minor damage

but the log because it was bent rolled as i drove over it and then whipped up and dented under the passenger door sill on my mazda the dents are still there

scrub and long grass can hide the unexpected i treat them with more respect now quiet often will get out and walk it first
it's a bit like crossing a stream or river never know whats hidden in there

i remember on one occasion i walked through some scrub to check where i was planning to drive and found a small log lying flat but it had a limb coming off it which was pointing up in the air just at radiator height and would have pierced right through the radiator had i not found it

so yes my advice dont drive blind as there are hidden perils
cheers barry
