Hi everyone! We are in the processes of planning and equiping ourselves for our change of employment. That is travelling around Australia and working or playing. So we are looking into what type of boat to take. At the moment we are toying with the idea of a Porta-bote so any recommendations or opposite would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your thoughts especially the people who have experience with one

Hi Barbara,

This topic comes up quie a bit so I used the new (and very much improved) forum search facility and it gave about a page of hits. A link to one from last year is here
Good luck with your research and your "new employment" - im sure you will enjoy it.

Cheers,

Val

Hi Val,
Thank you so much. Yes i should have used the searcch function but I forgot it works so much better now. I could never work the last one due to not being that computer savvy. Thanks again i appreciated that

WOW he search button is great.

I gave up using the old one as it was next to useless, the new one will now be used a lot more.

G’day Barb,
I highly recommend them and have contributed comments to previous queries. The link above is before I owned one. If you have any specific query or reservation I would be happy to try and answer it for you. The biggest surprise after purchasing it was how quickly it was set up.
Myles.

They look good but expensive . I have seen them mounted on the side of vans etc .
This is why i wont become a member ever again , too many ''do a search'' police instead of thoughtful up to date answers .

Atta Boy,
I think you took it the wrong way, the new search system is great and others will add their new findings as time goes on. The responder who said have a look through the search has posted and answered some very good threads.

Have a good one and think about it

It's mainly the ones too lazy to Google that prompt those replies!

Shaker,
Exploroz could just get rid of this forum and have a link to a new site called Explore Google.

The poster was looking for information and was guided in the right direction, I don't know the poster but all of a sudden he maybe lazy. OR maybe he is looking at all the info he can get and just needs a little guidance.

Great way to welcome a post.

Hi Atta Boy,

You are very correct there Atta, so many do direct people requesting info to the EO search function or Google and do it in a less than polite manner. No I would say in a peeved manner.

The suggestion that someone is lazy for not doing a search indicates that the responder is also lazy.

My advice to those who do this is "Don't bother". If you have had enough of answering questions then don' answer. Simple. Take the tyre debate as an example.

I agree with Rock Ape also.

When someone asks you for your opinion or knowledge they are paying you a compliment and they should be treated as such.

More manners please. Now watch the flack come my way.

Cheers all, Bruce.

Hi Barb,

Last year i was talking to one of my nephews about those boats and he said "I thought they were rubbish" but a visitor to the park he was managing invited him out in one and he was very impressed. He said they were much better made than he had realised and were quite stable and handled well. He is now a convert.

I on the other hand I have had no experience with them but had been vaguely thinking about them for some time and that is what prompted the question to my nephew as he has more recent experience re boating.

Cheers, Bruce.

We have had a 10' one for a few years with a 8 HP Yamaha now. We picked it up second hand from an add in a local Canberra paper for $3,000 with all the accessories and a motor - don't bother with the Bimini, but the other bits are all good.

Very stable and easy to launch. You can plonk one in anywhere you can walk to the water. They are very tough as well and quieter on the water than a tinny, especially in a chop. With the 8 HP they get up and plane with 3 passengers without a problem. We bought it with a 2.5 Mercury which would plane one up but couldn't quite get on to the step with 2.

On the Murray with the original 2.5 Mercury:

Thank you to all who replied, I really appreciated it especially the messages. It has helped us make a decision just wish we could get a ride in one but up in the country that is nigh impossible. Now to find one for sale hopefully a second hand one will come up, we would like a 12foot one we will buy a new one if we have too. Thanks again. By the way I am not lazy and quite regularly post replies to other posts and enjoy doing so just like i enjoy getting replies from other people
