Hi J&M,

What's that area like late November, early December?

Thinking of cutting across the top back to Perth from Cairns next year.

Don't mind a little bit of water, hate crocs etc...

Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan,
it of course depends on rains but even with some rains it still should be fine as it takes a bit for it to build up in the catchments before it starts to flood, roads could be very good or very rough but again it depends on how long it has had a grader on it ....... it will cut a fair bit off the trip so well worth it, you could look at cutting accross the Buchannin to cut out the Katherine leg also ...
Touch base with us in Nov to see how it is going ..
Cheers
Joe

Thanks Joe,

I was wondering if the water comes through straight away, I guess hope for late rains. I might pick up the western half of the Buchanan, want to visit Arhmen Land as well.

Cheers

Joe N Mel,
Any insight as to what the savanah track might be like at the end of June? Planning on travelling from Cairns to Darwin around that time.

Whilst on the area the Gregory Canoe race is still on the weekend following Easter and all Lawn Hill and Adels Grove will be open...
Below clip from the "Norwest times"...

THE Gregory Canoe Marathon will go ahead despite recent rain and flooding in the area.
Organisers quashed rumours that the event had or would be cancelled because of the weather, stating if the marathon was to be cancelled a decision would be made on the day of the races or the day before.
This year's event will come in a different form.
There will be no rodeo on Sunday night, instead a beach party will be hosted at the Gregory Hotel.
A new mixed event called the Canadian Challenge, for a minimum of four people and maximum of eight, will be added to the marathon with a prize pool of $4000 up-for-grabs.
North West Canoe Club treasurer George Alford said this year's race had all the makings of being faster than usual.
"The river has been up high meaning the course could have changed and it has the potential to be quite fast-flowing," he said.
"But we won't know much until we visit the river which we hope to do (this weekend) if the roads allow."
The club's secretary Ken Glasco said he hoped the new race, with high prize money, would see more Mount Isa and Cloncurry residents come out of the woodwork.
"We want local people to dig the canoes out from under their houses and dust them off for the event," Mr Glasco said.

At time of print yesterday it was possible for motorists to reach Gregory Downs from the Burke and Wills Roadhouse as the road was open to all vehicles with care.
Roads from Mount Isa and Cloncurry to the Burke and Wills roadhouse were also open.
However, the route via Camooweal to Gregory Downs Road was closed to all vehicles.

##### UPDATE #####
The "canoe race" has been cancelled today due to very un-safe conditions of the river, however the weekend is still on with the Beach party and various other activitys so it will still be a good weekend for all.....

Cheers all
