G'day My neighbour is looking at the Evakool Fridge Mate 55ltr fridge/freezer and was wondering how they compare to the fibreglass model which I have ,the Fridge mate is cheaper as
well. Any info would be helpful from owners of these fridges Thanks

Have a look at this month 4wd action magazine no 163 fridge comparo looks like the evacool use more power than others but as norm they are not comparing apples with apples .

I have the white fibreglass model that has bounced aroud in the back for over 5 years and is a great fridge. I sometimes remove the partition between the freezer and fridge when stationary for a period of time. This runs the fridge far better for a lot longer, on about setting 2 instead of setting 7.

ps daydream if you have to remove the divider for it to work better or to reduce power consumption than you have a problem
mine is about 8yrs old and don't have to do that even at 41deg when I was in
Kununurra or up in
Darwin

I'm guessing he doesn't have to keep two zones of refrigeration going. Makes sense that it'll do it easier if the insulation between the plate and the fridge is gone. I've done the same to run the whole thing as a deep freeze when fishing. Never thought to do it in fridge mode.

Just done it a couple of times before the age of solar panels. Camped for a week on the Cooper without charging.

We have had the Fridge Mate for nearly 4 years and have been very happy with it. No probs, efficient, in fact can get too cold!
I would buy one again.

Hi Batts,
I have the FM55 Fridgemate for 4 years now. Awesome Fridge, Just got back from DI for two Weeks and the Fridge kept constant at -10 c in freezer and 1 c to 2 c in the fridge. The setting was eco 7 during the day to eco 5 at night.
I have had this little beauty with the Freezer running at -24 c and the Fridge at -5 c at full power and it was also unloaded with any items.
I got this one as they seem a lot more rigid than the fibreglass, but would not be certain of that being absolute correct though.
Contact Evakool direct and let them answer some of your questions, I have found them very helpful in the past.
