Making frame for canvas canopy for trayback patrol, do i need to put a light weight solid / mesh roof on frame to stop water pooling between bows and bow braces , area approx 2 ft x 2 ft. Roof will be flat .

as said above....
mine was angled on my old hilux and the older the canopy got, the more it sagged and held water, flat would be worse IMHO. if i was to do it ever again on another vehicle, i'd have a flat metal roof and canvas sides instead of the canvas roof.

G'day Beergutz ( you're obviously a wine drinker ha ha )
Having a metal roof has many more advantages over a canvas one. I put thin gauge sheet galv on my last Patrol and it worked a treat. I also made a lightweight roof rack which was easily removable when not required, something not easily done with a canvas roof. Canvas roofs can flap around a bit when driving. Just my opinion - good luck with your project.
Cheers

G'day Gaz,
been known to gutz a beer or two lol ,am leaning toward covering frame top with 1.6 mm aluminium sheets as can get them cheap from local scrap yard ( water damaged stock from Brissie floods ) . Was intending to cover them with canvas but if flap too much may need to revise plan A .

I had a canvas canopy on my old double cab Nissan navara . Being smaller than a tray back water didn't
pool.
Interesting compared to fiberglass canopy's I have had since things inside were cooler and for some reason less dust came in the canvas canopy's.

Hi Lachie ,
interesting about the dust factor , i thought every thing would be covered in 1 in of dust in canvas canopy also worried about heat as will be running 2 engel 40 lt fridges .Thanks for your reply.

Mate go with the aluminium. Pop rivet securely to frame . Will last for years, cooler than canvas and a lot more solid. Sounds like the price is right too!
What some of the locals up here are doing is also using old aluminium screen doors as side gates/doors,for security, and having roll down canvas covers from roof frame. Very secure and keeps things private as
well.
cheers

Hi Bigfish,
that sounds like a good idea to have a bit of security grill hinged from top of frame, might stop some buggar helping themselves to my beer !
Cheers mate
