Firstly....writing everything in caps on the internet means you are yelling
Regarding your question we are with CIL and find them very good. Allot of people on here go with them.

A lot of factors get taken into account, including post-code where you live, cost of claims for similar vehicles / vans that you are insuring. And not to forget that with all the natural disasters that have occurred in more recent times underwriting costs have gone up.
So it is almost a year to year proposition, one of the best things to do is get 3-4 quotes from the mainstream insurers and take it from there.
Cheers, ‘The Landy’

Mine is insured with CGU through Affinity insurance Brokers and was cheaper
than anyone else INCLUDING CGU themselves for the same policy
Go figure.
I rang Apia, Suncorp, CGU, CIL and Nrma.

You get what you pay for, CIL has the best policy conditions/wording, only one to go for.

Hmmm Not necessarily so
Brokers can get you a better price sometimes.
In this case CGU quoted over $1100.
They sent me the PDS and brochure.
The brokers price is just under $800 and I got the same PDS and brochure.
CIL was over $100 as
well.

The "Golden Rule' in re-insuring seems to be "Ring around, including those that you expect least from". This industry is more 'tricky' than a bag of monkeys..... they play with premiums to an extent that defies logic most of the time - one won't insure you - others will - one wants less now but asked for more last year - give you a good quote for the car but a bad one for the van, etc etc. Just decide on what excess and extras you need cover for and then start ringing. I've had a van for 2 years - the first insurer was great but wanted too much on year 2 (very common) - the second insurer only wanted a 3% rise for year 3 - will probably stay there. Some insurers are easy to dismiss, in that they don't listen, are vague and disorganised and get paperwork wrong - it's likely that they'll be that way if a claim becomes necessary :-o).

hi all
it seems to me that the most important thing in this discussion is not if it is the cheapest but how much of a hassle it is to claim and whether they honour the claim. cheap is not generally the best. stick with the motoring organisations !!!! regards bill

I wonder when I read posts from the people raving about CIL being the only way to go as we have just done the ring around after CIL offered renewal at a 20% increase to the previous year policy with no claims ever and having taken our premiums for years. I have read PDS statements from MHIA, NRMA, GIO, CIL and AAMI with a fine tooth comb and they all compare within a bulls roar of one another re coverage and inclusions, yet prices vary by upto 40%, this comparing apples to apples with a same agreed value policy with same value of contents??
NRMA $ 454.16
CIL $ 569.27
MHIA $ 593.95
And the others dearer still, the dearest $724.15
I hate paying insurance as much as anyone, if you are going to pay for it get a competitive policy on both inclusions and price, service comes and goes and you never know until you need to claim which is hopefully never.

I have been with CIL for over 25 years and have been very happy.
Last year my caravan sustained $25000 worth of damage due to hail damage.
Nothing was a problem, assessed and repaired within 6 weeks.
Premium slightly higher because I have dropped to a lower no claim bonus as would be expected this year for the same agreed value, less than 20%.
So I am happy and will espouse CIL because of my dealings not price.
Cheers,
John

I was a member of a small fleet owners organization who all got together and approached insurance companies to insure us as a collective. We got some quotes and it worked out that we got a bulk discount on our insurance. Buying power is the key, a group of small businesses (or individuals ) joining forces for the good of all. Might be an idea we could put forward to David and Michelle. Cheers Mick

We have a package deal with Suncorp Insurance, which includes houses, vehicles, caravan, business insurance/public risk ect.
We still ring around for package quotes and if Suncorp is dearer we just get them to match the quote or lower it, we have been with them for several years.
Cheers

We do pretty much the same thing, only with NRMA, and couldn't be happier with their service, and especially dealings when making a claim, which is the true
test of any insurance policy.
Always
check how they process their claims IMHO. A cheap policy may result in cheap backup.
Had several No Fault vehicle claims over the last few years, and a $3,000 kangaroo strike damage to the van. All were dealt with over the phone super quick, no fuss, prompt repairs, and a follow up phone call to see if we were happy with the outcome. We didn't have to run around getting quotes for the repairs, they just gave us a list of NRMA approved repairers, for us to choose from.
No affiliation with NRMA, just a happy customer.
Fred
