Hi Guys,
Just wondering if any one has done the trip from
cairns to
weipa in the last month!!!!!!!!! We have to do some work up their and I am trying to find out if a 2wd ute could make the trip across.
The ute will be accompanied by 4wd's towing Vans and Trailers.
Cheers.

Hi Expanda.
I did it in 2009, July August in my 4x4 and Tvan. The Road is being improved with a lot of bitumen stretches. There was a lot of work being done along the road up to
Laura and along the road to
Weipa. but there was a lot of rough section in beteen. although it changes evey year. There was a V Dub I meet at Coan. Two women in the 40's on their way to
Cape York. I did not meet them again but they had got as far as the
Jardine River Ferry. so I was told. I is a case of driving to the conditions. One day it may be Bitumen all the way. Cheers Steve.B....

... Bit of relevant recent information can be found
here
Note as shown on the page ..Definition : LOCAL TRAFFIC : means you must live or work in the immediate area (ie on that road, not just within the Shire).
Do not disobey '
ROAD CLOSED' signs as you void all insurances in the event of an accident. You can also be fined by Queensland Police Service and lose points off your licence.
This has happened in a number of
places in Qld where drivers have disregarded the "ROAD CLOSED" signs and driven on causing massive damage to the road. One individual in the
Birdsville area had his vehicle confiscated and also a $20,000 fine - far short of the cost of repairing the road after he chewed it up!
