We are currently looking at a second hand Basestation. My question is regarding the top of the bed. The newer ones have the hard top. Would this be noisy when raining? I'm thinking the hard top would help to protect the canvas and looks better.
Thanks
Sharon

Hey Sharon What's this. No more "roughing" it? The soiund of rain on tight canvas is going to be a lot louder than on a nice Fiberglass roof. The hardtop protects the slide ouit beautifully. My brother has had a couple of expenders (and jayco campers) over the years and says the hard tops are the way to go. No choice in my mind.

Cheers Mick

Yeah I liken roughing it to middle age. Over it. Took me a week to clean up after easter and packing up in the rain. Waiting in line with the kids to shower them. I know get the violin out. We like the idea of the back room for all the kids and Johns crap in the basestation besides Id like the idea of sitting back on the balcony next easier copping a bagful from Hairs and Goldie.

I own a hardlid expanda, the rain makes more noise on the roof than it does on the hardlids. Nice and quiet.
Which top? Def the hardlid. Set up takes me and crew about five minutes. A friend has the older style and we are usually making them a coffee while they are mucking around with the awnings over the bed ends.
I'd suggest getting some end shades that fit to the hardlids if they aren't already fitted. They help protect the canvas when set up and provide some privacy if you want to have the windows open in the beds.

Hi Sharon
Just bought a 1756-2 underslung on road new and from research I did re:sale is better for 2008 hardlid expanda's onwards and not much price difference between vans 2 year old to 6 months old. Hence buying new, been a bit busy haven't been away yet but the kids have slept in it in the back yard :-)
Heading away long weekend down to Kiama can"t wait. Happy hunting
Hard Lid for me

Cheers Michael
