Hi all, we are in Normanton and are hoping to get from Doomagee to Roper Bar in the next 3 or 4 days, the info I can get here is a bit sketchy to say the least, I know there is a Member at Doomagee and tried to find them in the Member list to send a M Message, to no avail. Anyhow, hope something current turns up, cheers, Kanga.

OT but Kanga we are heading to Normanton/Karumba at the end of June. Can you recommend a place to stay? Prefer bush camping?

CJ we had a look in Karumba today, very popular with fishos, loads of boats, caravan parks are pretty full recommend you book. There are random pull in spots all over the place but haven't noticed any really close to Karumba. We are camped at Normanton tourist park opposite the purple pub, which is fine $28 per night powered site, massive swimming pool! Sorry I can't be more help. Kanga.

i know a few will be reading this so the road condition report is as follows....
The road is officially OPEN to the NT/QLD border, there to Robertson River is "officially" closed ..... todays word from the NT roads is a contractor has been appointed to repair the Calvert and any other damage on that section, no idea when he will get there........
The actual condition is that the "Calvert" crossing is the sticking point, you can cross it but you MUST take the SOUTHERN side of the crossing as the middle and northern side are deep with very large rocks that will stop you fast ......
Probally about 10 4x4's have crossed it but it is CLOSED ATM .....
In this area the only closed road is the back way from Lawn Hill/Adels Grove to Doomadgee....
Lawn Hill/Adels Grove .......OPEN
Kingfisher Camp ..............OPEN
Hells Gate ......................OPEN .... cash only, NO eftpos and limited fuel/food until supplys return to normal ....

Many crews are still out there working and BIG trucks on the road, pull over and give them the whole road ...... PLEASE TRAVEL SLOW AND SAFE, with the cost of fuel these days you would be VERY silly to go fast

Cheers all
Joe

Hi Joe

Good to talk to you the other day the rd from Doomagee to lawn hill is in a bad way, the water in the Elizabeth creek is 800mm deep the Lawn hill creek crossing leaves a bit to be desired and the nicholson on Bowthorn is not to bad.

would anyone know if the Calvert road is open to the Tablelands hwy? That could provide some means of a detour around the Calvert River crossing. The turn off is about 22 klms East of the Calvert river crossing.
