We're going to travel up to Cape Leveque from Broome and am wondering whether or not we need a treg hitch on the camper trailer?

Hi Frances, you should not need anything other than a normal towball. This time last year, out of a total 200km there was only 90 km of dirt and it is not a 4WD track, just a dirt road. Now it could be corrugated, depends when the grader last went through, and keep to the 28 80 rule - tyres at 28 psi and don't exceed 80 kmh.
You must call in at Middle Lagoon and Chile Creek. Walk around the actual Cape at low tide, watch the sunset from the balcony at the new visitors centre or from the beach. Leave Broome now at May rates and when you're back in a week it's high season! Enjoy.......W

Warries response is spot on---a highly overated 4wd road.Been up there 3 times and you certainly do not need a treg hitch unless travelling during the wet when things can change dramatically.Yes go into Middle Lagoon as it is agreat spot and in my opinion a much better place to camp than the caravan park at Cape Leveque.

worked up there for about 2 years and had 2wd cars pass me, falcons and commodores and you name it, you could tow anything up with a rope .................
Most important thing to take is a camera.
